View Full Version : Did I get pinged for speeding??

I came off the Monash Freeway a tad too quickly & took my time getting to the 70KPH limit on Ferntree Gully Road ( 70 starts on the run off ).
When I pulled up at the Springvale Road lights a motorcycle cop pulled up next to me, obviously he was coming up Ferntree Gully Rd & kept in my blind spot for about 300m. I reckon I was on around 80-82 ish long enough to get pinged.
The copper seemed oblivious too me but pulled out a notebook & casually wrote something down. I very nearly wound down my window & asked if he got me, but thought better - it was that 38deg day.
The question is- Do they have to pull you over? He could argue it was unsafe to do so I guess.
Pretty lazy of him, if I do get one in the mail.
Anybody had a non camera- non personal fine ??
P.S. I haven't been booked for about 18 years now- touchwood..:)

I think you'll be fine. It sounds like he was just preoccupied.

It would be an "estimated speed" by him...if anything....going off the speedo on his bike...may well have done the notebook thing to give you a scare...

You might find he was a Police Artist.
He simply liked the look of car so he did a quick sketch for posterity.
A quick search of the Police website www.randompolicesketches.com.au (http://www.randompolicesketches.com.au) shows this car done recently:

Is it yours?

Well, if he was doing it for prosperity, he's got a long wait! He's no Rubens!

I could be wrong, but on a 38deg day I reckon there's no chance you got booked just for that. You were obviously slowing down - just a bit tardy doing it. If he wanted to book you he would have pulled over up the road further and done it there.
He was probably just doodling on the notebook to take his mind off the 55deg sauna inside his leathers, while waiting for the lights to change.

Motorcycle cops in NSW don't wear leathers - and not even a leather jacket in summer. They are usually in shirt-sleeves. Dunno about Victorians. This pic is a bit old. :D

Nope, our boys (vic) wear full leathers no matter what the weather.

I have always noted with interest that our Motorcycle Coppers wear the normal shirt and 'leggings'. I would have thought that wearing leathers would be a must for any rider - especially one who will likely have cause to ride at higher speeds than most, and dodge traffic while soing so!
As an aside, I watched a motorcycle Ambo ride the wrong way down a busy one way city street a few months ago. Instead of picking a line and letting people move clear, he swerved left and right all across the three lanes, dodging oncoming cars and sending motorists and pedestrians scattering... Surely not in the ASNSW handbook...
