I have the bug again and it's biting hard ! I want to get back into speedway racing but do it properly this time in a more common class . I'm looking at 2 classes at the moment and they are the V8 Dirt Modifieds and Formula 500's . I raced a few years ago and done it half hearted . as the saying goes " I have the need . The need for speed !".
This is a V8 Dirt Modified .....

Only race around 5 months of the year . the rest of the time is saving money ;) . Last time i raced i was on $16 an hour and had 5 feature wins and a 3rd in a state title  . $25an hour is not to bad . plus the wife works fulltime also ;)

The current owner is restoring the Repco midget I had in 1965-66. Tried it for size recently. I have no chance of fitting in it again. Need to lose 30 kilos to do so. I remember when I was looking to buy my first midget. I tried several and even then had no chance of fitting in some. Obviously made to fit the first owner. I was 6'1", 100 kilos and roaring fit then, with size 12 shoes. To fit in a car built by Keith Blicharski, I think I would have had to have a leg amputated. Keith is tall but always quite a slim build. I squeezed into one of Fred. McDonald's cars but needed help to get out. This was an interesting jigger. It had a Rambler engine, aluminium block and cast iron head, destroked to bring it in at the capacity limit. Fred got the engine from Blicka who had built a car for it but then changed tack and was working up a Ford 260 V8 cut in half which was never completed. Blicka used a Daimler 250 V8 instead. This car is still around but needs a total restoration. Never seen another of those aluminium Rambler engines.

Ayrton Senna said "Racing, it is in my blood". Never a truer word and it will never leave you.
After about 7 years I still have the craving. Went to the world championships a couple of months ago in Macau and that made the problem worse.
As all ex-racers think..... one day.

Mate, consider the Wingless Sprints, one will cost you less than either the 500 or a V8 Dirt Mod. All you need is a roller chassis and basically a dunger V6 holden motor. But as a speedway fan of 50yrs I'd love to see you add to the ranks of V8 Dirt Mods....in my opinion the best class of speedway racing in australia.goto australianspeedway.com and present your case and you will get a lot more help and advice than I can give.

If you have a look at my pic mate is is a wingless sprint . (open sportsman ) Nos Sprints which they are called now . Been there done that and they are to slow . plus around this area to many ******* trying to stick you in the wall if you win to much  . Not only that the cost has gone up heaps in the Nos sprints with everyone trying to run the latest chassis and running gear . Less motor i think i could run a V8 dirt mod for less . and having a father in law as a mechanic rebuilding motors is cheaper too :D;) .

Hey Mick
One of the boys at work and several others in town race Supermods.
Guesing they have the same over there.
Basically a toy sprintcar,running nearly stock 5L v8s.
Very competetive and cheap racing.
Do they still run them over there, they are what sprintcars evolved from Im told.

Hi Mate ;) . They don't run them anymore due to so many classes running now . the Nos sprint has cut out a lot of classes which is good in some ways . to many classes end up to small and not getting put on at many tracks .
