Hi guys this has probably been done to death but i cant find it any where. I am after a set of Defender extreame alloys (boost i think) and was wondering what width they are and can i put 285/75s on them? I know you can put 255/85s on them but there are not very common and are very $.

Cheers Jim

They're 7" wide.
All D1 alloys are the same 7" if you wanted to find another style.

There is debate about whether you can fiT 285's on 7" rims

Mickey thompson approve firtment of their 285 X 16 x 75 MTz's onto 7" rims.
Some other tyre manufacturers will not aprove this fitment.

265/75R16LT (32/10.50R16LT)10 123Q 7-8 813
285/75R16LT (33/11.50R16LT) 8 122Q 7-9 841
305/70R16LT (33/12.50R16LT) 8 118Q 8-10 841
315/75R16LT (35/12.50R16LT) 8 121Q 8-10 876

Usually the tyre fitters & retailers will fit tyres in accordance with manufacter's recommendations.

This does not mean it is a legal modification as this is based on original tyre sizes.

Hope this helps

Regards

Chuck

Thanks Guys. Will the 285/75 rub on my 130 with a 2inch lift on those wheels??

They fit beautifully. The only problem is some tyre manufacturers don't approve them for a 7" rim (as you showed). 285s seem to stay on the bead better and protect the rim from damage on a 7" rim.

285s on disco steels will rub the coil turrets on the rear (on articulation), and you will need to reduce the steering lock or they will rub the radius arms.

I assume the alloys have the same offset as the disco steels?

pretty much the same deal on a defender wagon on Boost Alloys, you may also smell burning rubber when cornering from the rears, depends if the tyres you fit have sidebiters or not, mine dont anymore on one side!:(

I have 285/75 mtr's on 16inch steel rims on my 2001 extreme.
I had to have the rims offset by 50mm to stop the tyres rubbing on the coil housing at the rear.
Summerfield Engineering in kenwick WA 0894591078 did the job for I think $40- per rim.
Doesn't help with your alloys of course....:)

(They are standard 7inch landy rims.)

I'm going back to 235x85x16 on Wolf rims .

No such thing as (16"x)7" landie (steel) rims. (16"x)7" disco rims yes... You only need to get them offset by 15mm or so to clear though. I am not sure how you go with +50mm disco rims - I have a set of +25mm that rub the outer guards with 285s.

Just one moore question about off sets....Do series 1 to 3 have the same off set as later model defenders???? As in are the wheels interchangeable???

Cheers Jim
