Is there a plumber in the house

The plumbing in my house is getting me really annoyed. If more than one tap runs there is a loud vibration that comes out of the pipes can be heard over the whole house.

It is not hammering just a loud vibration. I have replaced and re-seated all the valves in the taps with no success and it only happens with the cold water but I do have hammering with the hot water that is caused by an old mixer tap - an anti hammer device will fix this.

So is there a plumber on the forum who can point me in the right direction.

You need a water hammer arrester. A pipe is not clipped properly somewhere and so frequency or vibration is set up. You'll never find it so ;

Fit an in line water hammer arrester on the fitting at one of your outside taps. Bunnings should have em.

Thanks - so an anti hammer device will work even though the noise is not hammer?

If I may - think of an anti hammer device as a steering damper. It evens out a number of different sorts of vibrations.

I've had noise from jumper valves spinning- fixed it by flattening shafts of valves, they are ment to be loose though. Also had noise from dome shaped valves- you should be able to isolate them if this is the cause
If noise has always been there it may be from a burr on inside of pipe- not much you can do about that-
If your pressure is high you could try reducing it with a limiting valve- if already fitted could possibly be source of noise? Reducing pressure may help with loose inaccessable pipe or burr's

I found fitting 2 to solve the issue in the ipswich house, one in the hot water and one in the cold water line, they sit behind the taps that feed the washing machine...

got them from bunnings and installing was simply a case of turn off the water unscrew the tap complete from the wall, screw in the arrestor and then screw the tap back on. (make sure you put the arresters in vertically or they fill up with water and do nothing)

I will cut the main water line into the house where it comes in and put an anti hammer device there - noting I do not have hammer as such but just a noisy vibration while taps are running.

yeah so did I especially when the hot water was on in 2 places at once, a kind of whistle crossed with a rattle.

As a rule you should always turn off the washing machine stops as the felx hose can also set up a vibration. Uncommon but it does happen.
