Workshop Instructions for Removal of A/C Unit 85 County

By now I think you all know I bought a 1985 County V8 with factory air.

The fan in my unit is squacking loudly and I need to get some oil in there or it will burn out. The fan unit appears integrated with the A/C. I thought I may be able to lift the large black plastic cover off and access the fan, but there are screws that I simply cannot get at unless I remove the mudguard!

I can't get the side cover off where the fan is so that I could access it from the side, because of an A/C pipe.

My manual has no instructions for The A/C or fan unit.(pic attached).

Does anyone have the workshop instructions or detailed instructions on how to tackle this job?

(BTW the A/C doesnt work either!)

I dont know how to fix this problem but my aircon was broken & ive decided to take it all out & put in the old style vents. I just need time to do the job. Ive been told from other county owners that with the vents there is no need for aircon.

I managed to remove the side cover, but I might have had to bend the copper pipe (gently).

I have a complete county AC system which I no longer need.

same, i have an isuzu. loking at your pipe is seems a bit closer maybe? but i had to Gently move it a bit out of the way

Just to close this out, I did gently bend the A/C tube and I was able to remove the cover and then pull out the motor and fan blades. I disassembled the two right there as I could not get clear of the A/C pipe, but I got the motor out, oiled the bearings, and she absolutely hums now. Thanks again for guidance.

Just to close this out, I did gently bend the A/C tube and I was able to remove the cover and then pull out the motor and fan blades. Sorry i should have suggested before, the bearing on the motor side is a bit hard to oil, I drilled a 1.2mm hole in the steel housing

The motor out of mine looked like a completely sealed (therefore throwaway) unit, BUT it did have a 20mm hole so access for oiling the internal bearing was a breeze.

Thanks for the tip. Its worth being aware of.

Two problems to go...no guts in the engine department, and I cant get the internal light to turn off....very much a nuisance for secret unregistered night testing! If I cannot get these sorted I will start a new thread!
