2007 Tdci Lining the rear wheel arches

New member here finally in a Defender after 28 years in Toyotas (always wanted that Land Rover) Contemplating bolting some offcut conveyer matting I have up into the underside of the rear wheel arches to deaden the stone hits being flung from the tyres on gravel roads. Has anyone else done this or have any suggestions. Sorry if this has been covered before but first time here.

I find that the rubber matting with foam underlay I put on top of the wheel arches in the cargo area deadens the sound quite a bit. Still gives the dog a scare when the odd big stone hits though.

Friend painted the inside of his with that plastic rhino-gaurd style paint on liner stuff. Works well. Me I still get a laugh out of watching the passangers jump when they think a rifles been discharged under the Defender:D

thought about doing this myself, I haven't quite made it to Clark rubber yet.

I have fitted outback drawers in the back of mine so that deadens the sound a bit but fixing some rubber underneath is on the to do list.

If you are going to do this then i recommend continuing the conveyor material down the inside of the wheel arches to block mud from spraying from the wheels onto the chassis, crossmember and inside of the body. I have done this on my County and it makes it much easier to clean after doing muddy trips. Not having mud underneath your car also helps prevent rust from occuring.
