I have disturbed the fuse mount on the firewall to install some sound proofing and now the wipers operate evry time the lights / horn / indicators are used. I have striped evry thing out including the aircon to check all conections but cant locate the problem.
I have a rav disc but cant find a wire diagram for Tdi 300 def. Were is the main earth for evrything off the steering column ?.
Has anyone experanced this issue befor, I would appreciate any ideas / comments.

Come ooon , some one has had to have this happen before !.I have stripped the cab out, traced the loom from switch to the wiper motor, checked the earth bolt on engine bulkhead, changed the lights switch, checked and cleaned every fuse, disconected the addons (elec brakes-taco-low water alarm) and all ive achived is a flat battery.
There are plenty of relays, so do I start swopping those out, starting at the front and working towards the battery ?.
I have a multimeter but no idea how to apply it, cant find a online tutorial for testing relays or 12volt continuity, any sugestions ?.

Does the fusebox need to be earthed? ( I can't see why it would)

Has the soundproofing broken that earth link? (if there is one)

What happens if you use the wipers. Do the indicators & horn (etc) come on.

Almost certainly an earth problem from things I've read. Check the other earth points too (ie indicators and headlights) Not sure where these are though. - in the guards or radiator panel?

The fuse block isnt earthed in any way I can see, I removed the sound proofing and screwed the fuse/relay mount back to the fire wall, no change. When you turn the ignition on and use the horn/ indicators / light switch (high beam) the wipers come on for a cycle !.This has got me stumped as I cant find where all those funtions come to gether or cross over.

Sorry fogot to answer the question, the wipers operate normaly in all 3 pos with no efect to the other funtions. So its a one way thing !.

Sounds like the lighting circuit feeds back through the body and powers the wipers.

I'd be looking at the earthing of the lights, indicators, horn. (not neccesarily the stalk)

One cycle only? Do you have an intermittent function on your wiper switch? If you do you will have an intermittent wiper relay in the fuse/relay block. The lights circuit must be triggering it. Not knowing anything about your vehicle I would guess that something is leaking current across two relays, could be iron dust for all I know. Try finding the intermittent wiper relay or pull them one by one until it stops.

Its a 98 tdi 300 130, and im guessing that the two yellow relays side by side on the fire wall may be the problem.
