That is sad. This joint is turning into a toilet!
I've got a bit of Amaroo, HMAS Nirimba (old Schofields Aerodrome) and Hoxton Park..... I know people have to live somewhere but where's the infrastructure to support it (apart from toll roads). The place looks like Lego land from the air.
Maybe I just don't like change :(
Thanks for posting the photo

Sad photo, but it brings back some fond memories. Some no so good as well as it is where I wrote my old XAGT off. (rule 1 - never race your street car)
Matt, I spent a fair bit of time at Amaroo as well as many years at Nirimba. What was significant at Hoxton Park.

Hi Paul.
Hoxton Park was a small airport in, what was once, the sticks. Then the devlopers moved in and built houses all around it - then someone crashed into another aircraft and fell onto a house - then cries went out about an airport being so close to residences - then it closed so a motorway could go ahead and that was that.
Yeah, Amaroo was great - lots of memories, as with Oran Park.
Good times :D

Sad, I spent many years racing over that bridge. :(
I was disturbed to see houses or something in Amaroo also.
If you move next to a race track or an airport, then you should also expect and learn to live with the noise!

helped a mate in the 6 hour last year. If you got the kink at the end of the straight wrong you might end up in a backyard. Terrible to see. Spent a lot of time, money at Oran park over the years. While Eastern Creek is a great circuit it doesn't have the feel that Oran Park had, and Wakefield Park is a goat track. Anyway, I'll stop rambling, I think I'm geeting old.:spudnikconfounded:

I don't think it closed so a motorway could go ahead, they were still flying a couple of years after the M7 opened, but admittedly it was a bit 'closed in'. I suspect it failed some aviation criteria because the motorway went ahead, or just got sold by the owner 'cause the price was right. Once it closed though they didn't muck around the runway was ripped up within a couple of days.

The airport, part of the infrastructure built during WW2 , was sold off by the Federal government along with Mascot and Bankstown. Unlike Mascot, there was no condition in the sale requiring that the new owners continue it as an airport, and it was always expected to be seen purely as a sale for real estate development, this being so the government would get the maximum price for it. This has resulted in increased traffic at Bankstown, already one of the world's busiest airports. The same owner is now trying to force operators out of Bankstown by extravagant rentals, presumably so that they can eventually build houses there too.

On club days using the figure circuit, we use to have LeMans starts with a twist, we put the bikes on the bridge and riders stood under the bridge, while standing under the bridge the marshals moved the bikes around:whistling: so it wasn't where you left it:D
Made for some very funny starts:clap2:
I have photos of them somewhere, if I find them I'll post them up.

I only stopped driving due to an eye problem,,,(which has since repaired itself)
but still manage to keep Russels race car balanced as few others could;):p
I'm have no idea how I'd survive without racing--
sooner or later I'll have to stop I guess,,
but not yet:twisted:
