I am in thinking of buying a 1999 defender and would appreciate any advice on things a should look out for when inspecting the vehicle. It is a few years since I have owned a landrover and have never owned a diesel so any advice would be great

Man is that a big question!

seriously there are sooooo many posts on that topic so just search.

Its sounds like you have found one you like and as we are not all psychic who can tell if it will go bung.

The early ones 99-01 were a bit simpler. 02 on had catalytic converters and more electrics like windows and central locking and better ECU in that is was programmable and does have a bit more power (not on paper though they do go better)

But check the standard stuff. fuel, oil, water leaks. Vibration in drive-line, clunks etc. Service history important. If its doing any weird stuff then let us know and hopefully someone can tell you what it is before you buy it. Just remember it is always worth getting the best one you can afford. If it seems OK then dive in and buy it, there is nothing that money wont sort out later.:)
