View Full Version : HRA?? Need a bullbar

RickP38

Hi all,

Does anyone know if HRA are still in operation? I have been trying to contact them without success for about a month now. The website is still active but hasn't been updated since 2008..

Better yet, does anyone have a winch bar for a P38 they would like to sell:)

Another question: If you modify a D2 ARB bar, what are the legalities?? What could go wrong etc etc..

Thanks

Rick

I've been trying for over 12 months to buy a bar for my RR. I'm not quick enough on Flea Bay

Hardy Neale (in Sunshine Coast, Qld) sold Hard Range to Andrew Barbara (in Perth, WA) a year or so ago.

I bought Hardy's Rangie in December 2008... the one that appears in most of the HRA adverts :D

Willem has a HRA winch bar. I have a HRA bar (pre-winch) which was the original prototype for latter models. There are a few others getting around the forum.

"andrew e" has successfully fitted an ARB D2 bar to a P38A with some TLC and skills.

Airbag compliance should not be much of an issue as the crash sensor is on the body, not the bar.

If you don't get any joy from HRA/Andrew in the next few days, let me know and I will try to contact him via alternate means.

I'd hate to see HRA go down the drain.. in fact, I'd be prepared to look in to buying it to preserve the good name and products. Anyone else feel the same way?

Cheers, Paul.

HRA bar is great - if that's the quality of all of their products, I can recommend. I'd support you Paul, if you were to buy it ...

When it was up for sale I tried contacting Hardy with a view to buying the business but I couldn't contact him.

I've got an email reply from Andrew Barbara dated 21/11/2009 if that helps - so they were around as at November last year.

I was enquiring whether they do a rear tyre carrier for the P38 (they don't)

Hi guys,

Bit of bad news for me, good news for Everyone!

I was unsuccessful in obtaining the finance required to purchase HRA ( i was settling on two houses and the bank manager and i came to words because i wanted to stretch the budget by another 50k), and due to another nut (Range Rover nut that is) making a higher bid, I was out gunned!

The good news is , HRA is back in action under its new manager!!! Finally we can all get our front bars for our p38's. Please lets all join together and support HRA and its new management team and no doubt a swag of new discounts (hint hint)to get things off to a flying start.

After all I will happily display a large HRA Sticker on my P38 for a little discount off a front bar!!!

Thanks again for your support guys I appreciate it, After all my years working for landrover dealers, I thought i had broken into the after market industry!...

Land Rover the BEST4X4XFAR!

oh i need to drown my sorrows...hmmmm Landcruiser terrain park is lookin tempting!!!

Thanks Razza. I'm not going to change my status to "vendor" just yet, although the paperwork has been signed and the funds transferred to Andrew. It will take a few days or so to get the stock moved from Perth to the East Coast and for us to get accross the stock levels and supply chain stuff.

I'll let my "partner in crime" introduce himself when he feels like it ;).

Discounts for AULRO members are certainly worthwhile considering. We will check out what is possible as soon we get our grubby mits on the stock and accounts.

Yeah me too. If they don't already exist I will look at getting some made.
Think there is some bloke in Geelong with a P38A who might be able to help here?:p

Thank you Razza for being a good sport. No hard feelings mate - it's just business... I don't see this being a big money spinner (but I can dream), however between <other bloke yet to identify himself> and I, there is a lot of passion for P38A's, and a want to help out other like-minded P38A enthusiasts. Fortunately <other bloke yet to identify himself> is very talented when it comes to mechnical projects and I think we will make a good team.

Drown your sorrows but not your Rangie ;) I did drown mine, which is how I came to buy the "original HRA" Rangie.

Hi all, my names andy, some of you know me as son_of_bundalene on ebay. I Will be keep both buisnesses seperate, HRA will be all the aftermarket stuff, and EBE parts (my ebay one) will just be the p38 used spares.

Thankyou paul for this oppurtunity (how many domain names do you have now:D). We will likely start a new thread on reccomended future extras.

We will take a few weeks to be in a stage to take orders of bars and such (theres only some smaller parts in stock, no bullbars), So please wait for the announcements before sending PM's.

Well done and good luck Andrew and Paul!

Not that you 2 very smart cookies need any help, but I would like a place to buy competitively priced (read as cheap as possible!):

- snorkel system;
- underbody bash plates;
- light covers (brush guards) front and rear;
- dog barrier/cargo barrier (again like original accessory);
- chassis mounted rear swing arm (that doesn't require bumber or light replacement);
- clear lense kits;
- those cup holders that clip into the centre console above the stereo!!!

Not sure about how the rest of the world views it, but I would be wrapped if some enterprising individuals took samples of all these things across to a Chinese trade fair and got some cheap but reasonably hard wearing versions of these made... Where copyright issues impede (like perhaps if copying original brush guards), I am sure you guys would be able to make the necessary style changes to improve the design and still keep things landed and retailed cheaper!

Assuming all that works out fine, you can put me down as first refusal on the VIC Franchise for HRA!

Again congrat's and best wishes with the new business!

Well done and good luck Andrew and Paul!

Not that you 2 very smart cookies need any help, but I would like a place to buy competitively priced (read as cheap as possible!):

- snorkel system;
prototype snorkel should appear on my car within the next few weeks

- underbody bash plates;
sliders and steering guard sketches still in the "back of the envelope" design stage

- light covers (brush guards) front and rear;
Yeah, good idea. The factory ones are pretty crap. I have broken a couple of the rear ones on mine. I'd prefer a mesh design to the slotted plastic.

- dog barrier/cargo barrier (again like original accessory); The original is pretty flimsy. Had it for my previous P38A but never fitted it. Think it is in Remy's car now. I want one I can actually hang stuff off without fear of the whole thing falling down.

- chassis mounted rear swing arm (that doesn't require bumber or light replacement); Hardy had one of these on my car originally, but abandoned it as a bad idea. Willem has it now and has adapted it to his car. I noticed that Bruce Davis has a good looking swing arm that uses the original bar too. The HRA rear bar/carrier is also in the "back of the envelope" design stage and subject to "robust discussion" as to where the arm goes/rotates about, what materials, finish, add-ons etc. It will be a replacement bar though, to keep in line with the front bar(s).

- clear lense kits; maybe if we do a bulk order from a UK/US supplier at trade price we can get the selling price down.

- those cup holders that clip into the centre console above the stereo!!! I can't use mine at the moment due to the new stereo :( I have been giving some thought to how we might produce an alternative cup holder kit though... just ideas at this stage.

Assuming all that works out fine, you can put me down as first refusal on the VIC Franchise for HRA!
noted, thanks :D

We've got lots of ideas for other stuff too, but don't want to turn this in to a product announcement thread or make it sound like an advert.

We are still getting our heads around what we've gotten ourselves in to,... have set up the company and ACN, but waiting for the ABN, GST, FBT registration to go through... then we can set up the bank accounts. Also looking at e-commerce solutions, and re-establishing relationships with suppliers. The current website is a placeholder with just a few sample products and a pic of my car ;)

It is quite a distraction from my day job, but I think it will be a lot of fun too. :D

Cheers, Paul.

I think Hardy was smart!

I have finally cobbled together some of the multitude of bits I got from Paul and made it into a workable swing arm/ spare tyre carrier. I wouldn't do it again, though! Next time I'll spend the hours in working my business and buying one that Paul and Andy design thru HRA!

But having said that, it now works fine, though I haven't had the time as yet to set up the number plate light. I have this nice LED light sitting on my desk ...

Hey there mate!

If you have been good all year Santa will bring you all the things that are on your wish list ( well thats what my missus tell me )

I have a similar wishlist for me rangie too. When you have the snorkel fitted what are you going to do about the BECM under the drivers seat? for those deep water crossings?

DT-P38

Hoping the boys coming up with the kit will cover off on that issue!

Primarily, the aim would be to stop water ingress to cab... reality says old vehicles and rubbers, etc things probably will not be that simple in majority of instances.

I like the idea of putting it into an air tight case (like air filter box) with a high mounted breather (sort of like a diff breather) or perhaps a connecting breather through to the actual snorkel inlet.

Or maybe even put some sort of extension leads on it and mounting it higher in the cab (in glove box, or even off the roof in the luggage area).

engineering, fabricating and re-engineering not my cup of tea though... like I said, hoping Andy and Paul get all that sorted!!!

In saying all that, I'm always happy to play guinea pig to some degree!!:angel:

The subject of BeCM and water has come up quite a few times. I think the real answer is to donate a P38A to a TAFE/Technical College electrical workshop and see what they come up with. Some of the challenges I see with relocating the BeCM, plus EAS, EAT and Transfer Box ECU's (under the passenger seat), plus the SRS ECU (under the cubby box) are:

Gauge of wire(s) to use. These components are sensitive enough already. longer and wrong gauge wire will likely cause signal loss or curruption.
Where to put them? Nowhere up the top of the dash. Foreward roof pod maybe for non-sunroof cars. Rearward roof pod sacrificing headroom for rear passengers or cargo area, affecting rearward visibility.
Maybe could make the box for the BeCM a bit slimmer by separating the power and signal boards and laying them side by side.
ventilation. the BeCM is pretty old technology now. Most mobile phones have more processing capacity these days, even Windows mobiles :eek: and the old relays and transistors run warm. Need some sort of positive ventilation if up high and in a box. Perhaps take a feed off the near useless rear footwell vents?.. but in Winter?
If sealed in a box under the seats, it again needs positive ventilation and an exhaust vent/pipe.
Even in a box under the seat there will be several water failure points where cables enter the box... and the box should be easily removed for component maintenance.
if the BeCM is in a box, how to access the fuses at the side?

Not saying we shouldn't or can't... just that I think a lot of us have been pondering this for some time, and I'm yet to see a working solution.

Sounds like a challenge to me ;)

Cheers
Paul.
