V8 Choke Warning Light Sensor works too much

My County V8 has a choke sensor and warning light. The light is on all the time. So far as I can see the sensor is as per the pic attached.

If I disconnect the lower cable (which cannot be seen in the pic) the dash light goes out.

Does anyone know how this sensor works? Nothing from the choke system appears to actually touch the sensor.

This doesn't look like the sensor, they were on the choke cable itself ( on mine any way ). Is you choke cable on the steeing column or on the LHS of the fuse box?

Thanks for the response. The choke is operated by a "T" that sticks out next to the steering column on the right.

Since posting the original, I have come to the conclusion that what my pic shows is in fact a switch that should have some sort of little arm sticking out, that should be depressed by a cam when the choke is not on. I think I am missing the "arm".

Two things are for sure. My choke light is on all the time. It goes out when I disconnect the little switch.

OK, I would say the switch that you have is not original. The one I had on my truck (it is now efi ) had a steel sleeve over the cable about 8 inchs from where it comes out of the fire wall and has a ramp in side on the cable which operates the switch which is clamped to the cable. I can take a photo of Dad's truck to show you if you like?

Yes please I would be interested in a picture in case I cannot get a replacement switch. The way it is installed on my engine does not look like a factory option so I might not be able to get a new one. I guess I should have a light operational for the choke what with the thirst of the V8 and the price of petrol.

Hi,

I have a switch on the choke cable within the engine bay as well as what seems to be a secondary temp sender in the manifold near the thermostat - is it possible the temp sender that operates the choke light be faulty, I don't have a wiring diagram yet so I am kinda guessing, actually I probably should have kept my mouth shut but I just couldn't...:))
The switch must complete a circuit to turn the light on - so check the resistance when your car is hot and when it is cold, you should have high resistance and one end of the scale and low at the other - it stays in one state or the other it may need replacing.....I have taken photos - will post in the morning.

PS: Taken the aircon con out and plan to swap out the dash too if you need anything..:)

I have a disconnected sensor in the middle of the top of the engine ( pic attached) that may have had something to do with it. Do you have one of these and is it connected up?

Actually worried I was talking garbage - was up late last night....got into reading on this site and before I knew it 2am arrived, not feelin the best today!!
Yes I do have a second second sender although mine is directly under or over my temp sennder unit - not sure which is which to be honest but they are both on the side of the thermostat housing (sorry - pictures crap) - both are connectred up.
