Ordered end October 2009 Arrived 2nd Feb 2010

I have been patiently reading about everyones Defenders all the things they are preparing, modifying and repairing. The 130 is still a couple of weeks before I take ownership but at least its here. Tray builders here in Albury / Wodonga are flat out, will have to wait my turn.

Hot off the truck today.
arrangements are made to get the tray built over the next couple of weeks, the bull bar, snorkel and tow pack fitted sometime in between.
Once I take full delivery it goes to Ivans for the fuel filter / water trap system then off to the tinters for the black out (Window tint)
Once that is complete we start adding some miles to sort out any issues.

I wish you well with the Defender. Finally seeing it in the flesh after waiting for so long must have been a real high. Regarding your comment about "adding some miles to sort any issues out" I would like to say the following.
Never having owned a "normal" car I approached the Puma from the perspectice of previous incarnations. I had a 90 turbo diesel for 6 years, then a 110 200tdi for 14 years. I bought the 90 new and I had issues with it and numerous trips to the dealer in it's first year. Nothing major just a lot of small stuff. Our first Land Rover and our first car which we thought was great. 6 years later and two children we needed more space. A 1992 110 200 tdi pickup was bought and converted into a 110 station wagon. Truly a great machine and it has servered us well for 14 years.
Everyone knows that the 200 tdi had a gear box issue and after 9 years of ownership ours went and left us stranded. We were going on holiday at the time. It happened at traffic lights near a fuel station so we could get off the road. Anyway we got sorted. My point being that the Puma comes with 3 years warranty and breakdown cover which I never had before. I have not had anything major needing attention on Zulu and I don't intend to worry about it. The vehicle-ZULU- is a joy to own and drive. Coming from previous Defenders it is the most comfortable, drivable and joyous machine yet. Do not get too worried about things that may not happen. Enjoy your Puma and if issues do arise there is always the warranty and breakdown cover to aid you.

It has been a long, very long, wait for the members of NEVLRC:o

We were in the process of chucking in a few dollars to cover the cost of a counsellor for AJSLRD (aka Commander and Chief)

To say Allen is excited is very much an understatement. I reckon the dollars collected can now be directed to the purchase of Valium:eek:

Great vehicle Allen and we are all looking forward to watching you develop it into an even greater vehicle:D:D:D

Not to mention the adventurous journeys you will be leading us on in NEVLRC 1:D:D

Nigel,

We plan to install an additional Fuel Filter and Water trap system, common rail diesel engines are infamous for engine failure due to the smallest amount of water. All we are achieving is a little extra protection. As for what we use thats still a decision to make.

Those 130's look excellent.

Re the water/grit in the fuel issue, you might want to check out this post for a simple "Pre filter" that I made for my 110. : http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/90542-cheap-fix-fuel-breather-water-dirt-ingestion-puma.html

Enjoy that car :D

Looks very nice Allen, will be good to see once it gets some more goodies and the tray.

My parents have just ordered a new 110, so in a few months they should have theirs sitting in the same place as yours is at the moment at Blacklocks :p

I hope you get lots of trouble free enjoyment out of it. Just be wary of Barra, I'm sensing some jelously, so he might try pinch it during an extended pit stop at the next monthly dinner :o

I'm already trying to devise plots of how to pinch it . Thanks to a little stuff up from Land Rover Australia, it was going to be on the April delivery, but is now looking more likely to be June - right when parents start work for the snow season so really don't have time to be picking it up and getting some goodies added... So naturally, despite the incredible inconvenience it would cause me, I have offered to help them by picking up/getting the fruit put on :D.

I'm still hopeful I'll get back down for another Steak and Beer night - this month was looking hopeful, except now I'm ducking over to WA next week, so there goes that plan!

Progress....

Not much can happen till the tray is built and fitted then she will be weighed and registered.

The dealer will be delivering the 130 to the tray fabricators today so she can be slotted into their production schedule, now its a small wait for a phone call.
I plan to have a long range fuel tank fitted under the tray as it's been built, makes sense to get the mounts in and anything else welded long before the paint goes on.
The filler tube and cap will be mounted between the cab and the head board of the tray, the cap will be a Cam-Loc style with some sort of locking device, also plan to fit the breather as far up inside the head board hoop, I've seen this done before with good success.
I will complete the fit out (transfer pump if needed and piping) once I take delivery.
As for the tank, having a quick browse there are loads to choose from, but it will come down to what fits best.
The tray will be having the standard drop sides, a special head board the fabricator does and a removable rear hoop, when completed the whole lot gets powder coated and fitted.
The bull bar and snorkel are on order and they get fitted in due coarse.

Scallops,
Well that makes me feel better, 3 month's nothing. My bother in law brought one of those rice burning Nissan Patrols, and within a week he had it delivered with all the fruit fitted.

Sashadidi,
I'll post the progress as things develop not much happening at the moment as we wait for the tray fabricator to fit us in.

Any update???

:D

Not much movement, the tray builder has it in his workshop ready to start, I found an auxiliary tank to use, my good mate Ivan had a rice burner tank behind his workshop and this looks like it could fit.
Looks like this will give me about 80 / 90 liters extra.
The tray builder has to jig up the main part of the tray before he can start looking at fitting to the 130.
If we can't get this tank in I will design and build an Aluminum tank, either way there will be extra space under the tray.
The tray will be 1800 mm x 1800 mm made from dura gal and zinc seal material, then it will be powder coated white.
ARB Albury tell me the bull bar has yet to arrive something about no stock but a production run this week should see a delivery next week.

Congrats. Please advise if or not you experience driveline vibration in 6th gear over 90KLm/hr as many 130 owners do. LR not interested blaming accessories - tray, towbar, snorkel etc. Otherwise fantastic machine. Cheers

I have noticed a slight vibration / drive train rattle in 6th, only at about 95 km/h, but my Discovery has the same vibration at the same speeds, loads worse in the Discovery.
If I travel at 90 or 100 km/h it's sweet.
My Disco has always had it, never changed with different tyre's, wheel bearings or uni repairs.
I just put it down to harmonics, a special Land Rover trait.

Sure can, watch this space Monday morning, I'm out tomorrow and this weekend using it for what it's intended.:)

PS
A UHF installed this morning GME TX3440 with remote mic, the unit is mounted behind the cubby box.
Current fuel consumption is 11.6 Liters/100k a mixture of highway and town use.
This weekend will be 600 / 700 km's about 500 bush driving, will be good to see results after that.

Weekend went well,

This Defender is the BEST. We found ourselves in some very steep country.

The weekend was to support friends riding through the high country.

I'm assuming this 130 is our "New" truck, lots of similarities to the previous threads and certainly local.
The way it was set up was one of the major reasons for buying it, just about perfect for us. Heaps of storage room for work and play.
The few additions required so far: winch, extended seat rails (Hard to believe the difference they made!) Reverse camera (Supermarket shoppers insist on standing behind the truck for a chat...) and a new steering damper.
Appears that an auxiliary tank has been fitted at some stage, but no longer, unfortunately.
Very little is on the wish list: on board compressor and brakes that actually stop the truck when off road or towing. I rate them about as good as my old Series III, I'm hoping this is not normal these days.
Absolutely love driving it, barley a weekend has gone by in the last 3 months that has not seen us up in the hills somewhere.
Sneaky day in the snow today as a matter of fact.
Rich.
