Can anyone tell if there are any authorised service agents in Brisbane for LR?

And are they allowed to do warranty work?

The delivery Dealer Service Dept clearly cant listen to a customer request. They had some very simple tasks to do before delivery which they stuffed up. and on rectification visit they still stuffed it up. At this point I have given up on them and will fix the issue my self.

So now the search is on for competent place to get the car serviced.

Hi Mowog,
All "LR Dealers" are authourised repairers, they wil & have to carry out warranty work at a customers request. You cannot get warranty work done at a NON LR Dealer workshop as they cannot claim the warranty.

Based on my 2 weeks of ownership I have grave concerns about the competency of the selling dealer service department.

I thought I did read that some LR specialists were authorised to do warranty work. That aside are there any good independent LR specialists in Brisbane?

The franchise manager for LR Aus is authorising other service centres who are not dealers. Don't know how far this process has got but I doubt thy would authorise any in major centres where thetere is a dealership. It will probably be on a distance from dealers basis.

I have heard good things about these guys:

mrautomotive - Home (http://mrautomotive.com.au/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1)

We haven't tried them yet, but I've been told they are authorised to service LR's. You might want to ring them to double check that though.

If you do take it there, I'd be interested to hear what you thought of them.

LR Australia in a brilliant flash of wisdom back around 2003 removed all authorised service agents that weren't dealers and cut back on the number of dealers.

It is possible to get warranty work done by a reputable workshop but this has to be approved through a dealership and (I think) LR AUstralia. I know this can be done as I had a couple of recalls on my D2a done in town and a friend had some warranty work on his Puma last year all by the local Toyota/Nissan dealer.

This may be a special case because I am in an extremely remote location. I also know it wasn't straight forward for my friend to organise the work on his Puma. So I guess I'm saying its possible but note always achievable.

The new franchise manager is trying to reverse this.
Not sure how far he has got.

Now that is good news. Let's hope he is very successful.

So all LR dealers in Queensland are on the coast with the exception of Toowoomba (a Ford dealer by the way) which is a whole 80 miles and 1 1/2 hours drive inland!!!!!

When Leyland Truck and Bus were the distributors we had dealers in all major towns and cities, even in places as small and remote as Quilpie, Thargomindah, Dirrinbandi, Winton, Cloncurry.

The inland was then LR's major private sector customer base.

And there's no one left in the country to buy them anyway.....

According to Nugent (1998), NSW population movements between 1991 and 1996 reveal complex intrastate demographic trends: the continuing domination by Sydney of the State's population, a pattern of inland migration to the coast and interstate, and very low growth or decline among inland regions. On one hand, 88% of coastal centres experienced population increase, with coastal towns having an average growth rate over the period of 16% compared to 5.7% for all rural centres. On the other, inland regions' average annual growth between 1991 and 1996 was a low 0.03% (0.63% from 1986-1991), and the population of most inland areas fell. Non-coastal centres grew at a significantly lower rate than the rest of the State. While towns with populations of 10,000 to 20,000 grew strongly, as did towns with 500 to 2,000 people, towns of 3,000 to 10,000 people recorded the lowest growth and lost population.

In Western Queensland much of the population decline was linked to the dramatic decline in the sheep industries. Wool was selling for less than, or little better than the cost of production for a long period. Some districts now have 10% of the sheep numbers that they had in the 50's-60's. Several prolonged droughts since the 60's did not help. Many large and famous stations no longer raise sheep at all. Most have gone totally to cattle. Less labour required, fewer and cheaper fences, etc. Elderslie at Winton raised fine Merino for 125 years up until 2004. Now all cattle there where once they regularly shore 250,000 and ran 15,000 cattle as well. Lerida shore up to 300,000 at its best, Dagworth 250,000, Wellshot up to 400,000. Corfield district shore over 3,000,000 once and in 2007 only 325,000. Cattle selling for $1000 and up made the decisions for the landholders.
