I am going to buy an ARB bullbar & winch for my D3. The Warn winch that ARB show in their catalogue is too expensive for what I want.
Has anyone fiitted anything cheaper to an ARB bullbar.
If so can you post or direct me to a photo?
Thanks,

Check out the Premier winch. It featured well in the recent 4x4 mag test, and is a lower cost than the equivalent Warn.

When I had my D3 I fitted an ARB winch bar and the Warn made "9000lb Magnum" winch, only every used the winch on one occasion and that was at Janie Creek, Cape York. Using a double line pull I dragged a 200 series V8 diesel LC + T-Van Camper up the sandy bank of the creek just as the tied was coming in.
I have got a SVX D'fer know, 6 weeks ago put the new ARB bar on it, but this time I bought a IronMan 12000lb, $850 - 3 year warranty and dealers all over the country, cant go wrong.
Couldn't see the point in spending heaps of cash on something that will not get a lot of use.
Cheers

I've got an Ironman on my Defender, works very well as a Navara, Hilux, Pajero and several trees can attest to and that's just in the last year.

I had an ARB bull bar and Aldi 9500 kg winch fitted by ARB to my D3 about 18 months ago. The winch as sold by Aldi is also sold by a well known 4WD distributor under another brand for substantially more dollars. The winch comes with 2 x wireless remote controllers plus a plug-in controller. I have decided to try and swap the winch and bull bar for a new ARB colour coded bar. My bar is colour coded Hawdon white and I would require the same colour. I originally purchased the ARB bar and winch to allow me to pull my off-road van out of a situation where the D3 with the van attached would not go. The idea was to unhitch the van, drive the D3 out and then winch the van through. Well as fate would have it, I sold the off-road van.
If anyone is interested in this exchange, please put up a post and I will contact you. I live in NSW.

I have the ARB bar and next week OL are fitting an Avenger 9500 - see: Opposite Lock Australia (http://www.oppositelock.com.au/index.php?next_page=product/category.php&category_id=609)
Have heard good things about Avenger - and under $1000.

x2 on the Tigerz11 - I just bought one and they seem quite good quality.
Mine cost $850 for 9500lb winch + rope + hawse fairlead + shipping to Perth.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I have checked with ARB and they will fit a non-warn winch supplied by me at the same time as the bullbar, for $85/hr, which sounds reasonable.
I am favouring the Ironman 12,000lb at $850 with 3yr warranty and remote control. The new ones are supposed to be waterproof and better solenoids than the first versions (all made in China of course).
I will still check out the other brands mentioned,
thanks,

Some comparisons here between Ironman and Tigerz11:
Tigerz11 winch or ironman - Patrol 4x4 - Nissan Patrol Forum
Funny the have a differant rated speeds as both winches come from the same factory as do many others, Terrain Tamer, Ironman and Tigerz11 are made by the Ningbo Lift Winch Manufacture Co. They have CE approval and are certified for quality management systems being in conformity with ISO9001:2000 standard.
Warn are Made in the Ningbo Yinzhou Tianxiang Winch Co.,Ltd factory across the road and have the same cerification as the others
Tigerz have the best warrenties of any winch in Aust at 3yrs and do cover water damage to motors which the others don't

I fitted a Ironman 12000 lb winch to a 2nd hand LR Winch Carrier (which i got from an AULRO member). It only just fitted as they a quite a large winch compared to the Warn 9000 that the carriers come factory fitted with. Might be worth a check to see if it will fit first. Apart from that, seems to be a good winch although i have not used it truely in anger i have had a few 'pretend' recoveries and it pulls the D3 no worries.
I ordered mine through Hiline 4WD in Traralgon and they had it delivered to my door the next day.
Thanks for all the replies guys.

I ended up fitting an ARB Bullbar with a winch.
The winch tucks in very well without protruding.
It seems like everything except the Warn & Superwinches come from China.
Some Chinese ones are pretty good, however after hunting around I got a Superwinch X9 on ebay for $600 new.
It came in an OEM Toyota USA box.
It fitted real nicely, with the solenoids inside the bullbar, not sitting on top like most do.
Also had the Safari snorkel fitted by ARB to finish it off.
