Hi all,

Tulip and I have bitten the bullet and put the Defender in for a long overdue refurb:

* New water pump
* Radiator rodded
* New Cooling hoses
* New clutch master cylinder
* New clutch slave cylinder
* Leaking exhaust manifold fixed
* New heater core
* New wiper control arm

So she'll be in great shape once I replace all the drivetrain fluids :)

HOWEVER :angel: ; we've found that the fuel tank is leaking at multiple points around the join.
Firstly: what could have caused this?
And secondly: does anyone know the best place to go for a replacement tank? a second hand tank would do fine until I get around to saving up for a long range one.

I have a leaking uder seat tank in the ute. If anyone knows where to get a replacement underseat tank that is not LR would appreciate the info. Wrote to Long ranger but only got a reply about a transverse tank probably suitable for the station wagon.
Weaping out of the seam just like the old series 3 does when it corrodes through between the two laminations.

Not sure if this is for td5 or Tdi, but stones get stuck in between the cover / guard and the tank and wear little holes in it..

The cheapest fix for small pinholes & seam leaks..$96.00

Petrol Tank Sealer - Fuel Tank Sealer - KBS Coatings (http://www.kbs-coatings.com.au/Tank-Sealers_c_10-1-0.html)

There are other products that do the same job..

Well what you need is a pre 2000 defender 90 tank. They are under the drivers seat. (they were also used by land rover as Aux tanks on 130's and 110's. that is where the tank is on my 90. You can get them direct from land rover or pattern part from parts suppliers

I'll be pulling mine out of my '98 300tdi in the next week or so to fit a longranger tank .
Open to reasonable offers.
Only problem is shipping. I'm located in North QLD.

I think it is a fairly common problem with stones getting caught between the guard and the tank as was mentioned before.
Mine doesn't have any leaks tho'.

Are they the same as a Tdi Deefer?

According to Microcat, fuel tank NTC2017 is common to the Tdi Defender from 1987 and Range Rover 1986-1991

I can't find my County parts lists to check.

There should be plenty of RR tanks about.

Yes an isuzu county tank will fit, you might have to change the position of the pickup though, possibly have to move it from the top to the side.

easy job though..
