View Full Version : will this R380 fit? Please help...

Hi,
I have a 1995 tdi D1 that needs a new R380 gearbox. I have found an R380(L) for sale out of a 2003 V8 D2. Will this fit OK? in particular, are the input shafts the same?

tdi & v8 have different input shaft. Disco & defender have different shifter

Cool thanks. Am I right in thinking swapping the shaft over just involves unbolting the flange in the front and doing the swap?

No - to get the input shaft out, you have to dissemble the gearcase and undo 5th gear layshaft.

I tried using a v8 box in a tdi - I had a custom spigot bush made up but it didn't last long (Long story)
