D4 snow chains rubbing on suspension arms

Whilst bending the sharp metal away from my FR ride height sensor (thanks Graeme), i decided to try my Konig Rallye diamond chains on the front wheels of the D4. They were purchased for my previous 2000 Defender Xtreme, so i wasn't 100% sure if they were going to be too big or small for the 19" D4 rims.

They fit the tyre, but the clearance between the chains and the top suspension arm is tiny! I believe it would touch whilst driving, even after snugging them up multiple times.

Is this normal or are my chains too beefy? They are very serious chains after all, they have never let me down in the past.

Any experience regarding the effects of using chains on this vehicle? Has the D3 got the same issue?

No experience with the D4 and chains but full marks for having the foresight to try them before you actually need them. :BigThumb::BigThumb:

Land Rover only approve chains for the front and only on 235s and only one type. The clearance is not great. So, if you're going to run anything else I'd only use Offroad height and not use max steering lock.

Thanks Robert, a few questions;
- is it possible to run 235's on the 19"ers?
- what do you mean by "one type"? tyre or chains? which type?

Regarding offroad height and steering lock, i total agree with these points to keep the chains away from the body panels. But, in this case where the clearance issue is with regard to the suspension arm, i think its a fix distance from the tyre irregardless of the vehicle height or steering position.

the one picture IVe seen of what Im told is the approved chain fitted (I'll try to dig it out again)

shows a chain that Id consider suitable for use in a bank to hold the pen to the desk and not much more.

setup in a diamond pattern and with the MK I's calibration the looked like a chain link about 10-15mm long made out of 3mm steel.

Chain clearance has always been an issue on the D3.
