Hi All,

I have TomTom, OziCE and iGo8 software on my YF GPS unit.

The trouble I am having is that when I try TomTom it take ages to get a GPS signal.

It is nearly instantaneous with the other two.

The only way I can get a quick signal is to change the GPS configuration to from COM port 2 (this is highlighted) to COM port 1. However this change is lost every time I restart TomTom.

Is there any way I can make this change this permanently.

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

Haven't used TomTom so just throwing some ideas at you

Is something else using the port before you switch to TomTom
Are you able to alter the port setting in a .ini file and save it there
What signal string is it using from the GPS i.e NMEA or SiRf

Cheers

Hi JLo,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm new to the unit and have just tried TomTom myself.

Not sure if anything else is using COM 1.

I cannot find any ini file that dtemines GPS setup.

Other NMEA receiver is selected as default.

After using Garmin XT for a few months, I just installed TomTom Navigator 7.910 on my YF GPS.

I haven't had time to test it thoroughly, but my initial impression is that things happen at about the same speed as with Garmin.

However, I prefer the way it presents the information and the way it works. That is a bit unexpected as usually the system you start with seems right and other systems seem strange at first. Garmin was my first experience of on-road navigation.

Another advantage of TomTom on my unit is that it is possible to jump out of TomTom to turn the music and and then jump back into TomTom. I couldn't get Garmin to do that. I had to start the music first.

My impression at the moment is that TomTom chooses a more sensible route than Garmin did from Camden to Tuross Head.

I will probably be able to give it a bit of a test over the next day or so because as I type this my daughter is in Gosford hospital giving birth to my first grandchild.
