Not sure what sort of boat you are after, but here is mine.

This was the reason I was allowed to buy the Disco in the first place...

And the reason for buying this particular boat was the name. Considering I have 3 daughters, SWMBO thought it appropriate.

Thanks Tombie, It is a great boat and performs well with twin 200 4 stroke Yammies. I previously owned a 560 series and was so impressed that I bought this one (bigger and better). Definitely gives you a feeling of confidence when the weather turns nasty. We go approx 80 miles out to sea fishing the reef. Usually this takes 2-3 hours but it has taken me 4 -5 on a couple of occasions when its turned nasty. Great handling boat. Her is a photo of my old 560.......Brian

I'm going to have a look at a QUINTREX SEAMAN CUDDY CAB 14 FOOT With 50 HORSEPOWER EVINRUDE . Hope to look at it tuesday evening. Nothing as flash as what has been posted but should do me. I hope its as good as he says it is. Taking my old man and a mate of his who have both had boats to check all is good. they are both retired mechanics so should be able to tell if motor is good or not(its an oldie). Also waiting to get the number of mech that serviced it about a month ago so wish me luck i am a little excited:D:D:D.
Also can someone tell me the difference between a sounder and a fish finder. It has a sounder (BRAND NEW GARMIN DEPTH SOUNDER MODEL: S/F? 80). Can't find any info on it as i don't have all the details on it.
Cheers Brett

Fish finder/sounder------Same thing mate..........The Quinnies are a great boat, especially the older ones with the original style flared bow. Also the OMC should give you little trouble, as they are a basically simple motor. I have owned Evinrude/Johnnos for many years and only thing I have been stuck with was a failed power pack. Since then I have always carried a spare when away on a remote trip ( and have never needed it-but it is good to have the extra security of knowing you have a spare if it does play up). Hope it goes ok....Brian

Hi Brett
Just from an old saltie thats been around a few boats, take care with the extra height of the cab, these little boats ( great sea boat in standard trim) but by adding a cab of that height with the light weight of the hull could spell desaster in the hands of inexperence in the wrong conditions. Take care and enjoy your boat

I've heard it said that these Stabicrafts are the Land Rovers of the sea:D

The blokes I've spoken to would probably disagree with the comment "even pretty good offshore" - they would say it is damned fantastic off-shore and is "even pretty good in the bays."

Awww Brian, what you keep them poor baby reds for ;)
You really will have to come north some time!!!!
We went out last weekend and got amongst em too. Best reddie went 84cm and 10kg!!!!

I thought you were selling the cat? I see you decided to keep her... I am eyeing off a big cat for sale at the moment. 33ish feet, full cabin big deck - old and needs a repower. My evil plan is to rip off the pods and outboards and put it back to shaft drive (original configuration). If the seller drops the price to its realistic value Id just have to go for it - and then find a pair of 4BD1s :)

G'day Steve, Surprisingly both the reds in the pictures were over 55cm, I think one was 59 and the other 57. As usual dropped a few big ones, the 4 of us had a simultaneous hook up and only 1 got to the boat. The other 3 rubbed through the leaders. The fish particularly the reds weren't biting properly that weekend sort of just sucking the bait. If you hit too early you would miss and when you let them go long enough to hook them they had it down in their stomachs and gave the leaders hell on the way up. Even the big trout were hard to find. But we all got a good feed (63 keepers for the 4 of us for a day/nights fishing.
Still have the cat, keep saying I am going to sell it but it hasnt happened yet, maybe late next year. It goes so well I will really hate parting with it. But I am not getting any younger so it will happen one day. Would love to come up that way for a bit of reef fishing, my rig would be great up there where the reef is so close (and the reds are big and hungry) but it's a bit big to tow that far. A 33 footer would be great for overnighters and when the southerlies come up, as you say a couple of 4BD1T's would be excellent on the back. The cats are an awesome fishing platform.

Stacer is a damn fine boat. The one my mate has is a 5.75 Ocean Runner Sports and we have been out in really foul conditions and while tin boats bounce a bit it handles the rough well.

Am in the market for a new boat myself to replace the old 16 foot Quintrex fishabout I have had for the past 20 years. Want to get a boat for outside work and am toying up with a Stacer myself so I will be keen to hear your report on the new tub.

Thanks Dave,
We're looking now at other options to a Whittley, namely a Signature 700L. Looks very niccce,, ;) (an oldy, but a goodie)
Have had information given to us that the Whittley's not so crash hot in rougher waters/weather. Unsure if this is true or not, (but so many people cant be wrong ehh ??) but its been enough to make us start looking at others.
We want one thats got a stove etc in it so we can spend weekends on the water, but still have a decent boat for fishing. Cant do much till we sell the two Discos though,, so it could be a while before we're ready to buy, which gives us good oportunity to look around.

With apologies for my lateness :oops2:. Boat, motor and trailer is about 1600 kg.. Throw in other gear like fuel, water, eskies, safety gear, fishing gear etc. I reckon would bring it in at about 2 tonnes. I tow it with a 2000 Td5 auto Disco which does the job without too much bother.

I have one that is a bit more economical to run than most of those.

Transport is no problem either. At less than 11kg, I can put it on my shoulder and walk to the water. :)

It isn't much good for fishing from though.:D

VNX205 - those (canoes) kayaks are very nice. wish i could make something like that.

Thanks.

You could make something like that. You do need bit of spare time, though as it is quite a labour intensive way of building kayaks and canoes.

I keep telling people that to build one of them, patience is more important than skill.

All you need is some 19mm x 5mm strips, preferably Paulownia or WRC, PVA glue, some 125gsm fibreglass cloth, some epoxy to wet out the glass, some polyurethane to protect the epoxy from UV, a few tools, a lot of clamps, and about 200 hours.

This is my latest creation. I designed it for paddlers between 15kg and 25kg or about 4yrs to 10 yrs. The small child is my granddaughter who is not yet 3, but will grow into it in a year or so. The larger child is a tall 10 year old that I borrowed to take some photos about a month ago.

Good luck mate, hope ya get some. I have the FNQ fever. I still haven't cleaned all the red dust out of the county because it reminds me :D

We built the trailer for the trip. All credit to Bundalene (Erich) who gave Dad and I the idea. No diff in the pumpkin. Just wheel bearings, springs and shocks, a frame and some RHS radius arms. All bolt on though so we didn't affect the gal on the original trailer.

I am putting a video on youtube of the boat trailer going down Palm Creek as we speak, I will put up a link soon.

and the side console I built, if you look carefully you can see the throttle lever inside the smaller wheel, it had to be there as the steering cable ran through the normal space. Also the centre grab handle was added
A chippie friend finished it off with a front and side panel. looked good all varnished up.

Just restored dinghy for father and on brand new trailer.....

Neighbour left off handbrake and car rolled accross Rd, over bins and rolled boat on trailer which lifted car off ground 1 m. Car remained suspended in air...

Neighbour, schoolteacher, built ramp with Bessel blocks?? To hold car up and then got under and cut away bins with angle grinder. Then- yes then drove car down ramp.

Boat was permanently deformed and stem and 2 planks were broken. It took me 60 hours to repair.

Just like the AAMI ADD. and they would only pay for 20 hours labour.

We have had our Quintrex 610 for about a year now. Its our first foray into boating and we love it.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Boat is a 2003 model and has been around a bit (Newcastle NSW, NW WA, then down to SW WA with previous owners) and has a few bumps and scrapes, but that means I am less precious about any new bumps etc.

With a 150 Yami, it can get up and move when needed, great for towing the kids on a biscuit. Lots of room for fishing or entertaining.

It was probably a bit bigger than I was initially looking for, but it came up locally at a good price and the extra length and high freeboard gives me some security should we get caught in some lumpy weather that can blow up on the west coast with little warning.

Cheers,

Can Ski behind it, fish and and will sleep 4.
most important it has a 110 litre fridge.
220 litre fuel tank
I have owned it for more than 10 years now.
Only has 220 hrs on the hour meter,
metho stove, fresh water system, sink, toilet, sound system, depth sounder,I built the deck on it, twin batteries, 240volt inverter ,etc
Its getting on a bit in age , but still can keep its own.
Will do displacement speed all day and use very little fuel, but when you need speed it will deliver enough to keep most others in check but at a cost to the hip pocket.......but some times its worth it.

Our Savage Envoy with a 40hp Parsun 2 stroke.

Bought the boat last year with a running Johnson 50hp but upon launching we discovered it would cut out when shifted into drive (ran ok out of water). Had it tested and tuned but the mechanic said he wouldn't guarantee it and recommended a new motor.. Next test saw us in the middle of the river with a shot motor and a puddle of premix around the boat.

Ended up getting a brand new Parsun - great motor so far!

Did some work on her - been fun. Wouldn't mind upgrading to something around 5-5.5m but will have to see.

Ours is a 1922 fantail launch built for the Belle Vue guest house in Lakes Entrance.
Has run a 3 cyl Perkins cast iron motor since at least 1965 and we are not sure how long before that. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180622/0cc36c60e80e676f5ef888d1608e8119.jpg

The size and weight of my 5.4m Trailcraft has restricted my fishing options and it is heavy and bulky to tow so I have bought a 16ft Quintrex which is Much lighter and easier to tow and launch/retrieve to replace it[thumbsupbig]
The Quintrex wont be as comfortable/luxurious as the Trailcraft but it will allow me to get into the fishing spots that require a fair bit of soft sand driving and the various bush ramps I haven't been able to use lately because of the size/weight of the bigger boat.
I only paid $12,000 for this 2006 boat and motor and the engine has only done 202hrs[thumbsupbig][bigrolf]

My D2a tows this with absolute ease and the trailer has the added bonus of the beach launch extension which will keep the disco's bum dry which is nice[biggrin][biggrin][biggrin]

I will be spending a couple of weeks up in Sharks Bay soon so I have done a fair bit of work on the new (new to Me) boat in preparation for the trip.

I have replaced all the deck carpet
Replaced the front deck as it was a bit "Tardy"
Installed an auxiliary motor, 15hp
Installed a dual battery system with an isolator switch, The boat only came with 1 battery.
Installed a second GPS/Sounder
Installed a new Lowrance VHF radio, The old radio was a bit "Iffy"
I have serviced both outboards.
New anchor ropes, chain and anchors are now onboard, Reef anchor, sand anchor and a sarca anchor.
Fitted an extra wheel carrier so that I now have 2x spares for the boat trailer.
Fitted new brake pads and cable for the trailer brakes.
Fitted new wheel bearings and seals to the trailer.
I have tided up all the wiring on the boat and have removed ALL the "Redundant" wires.

I am toying with the idea of fitting an anchor winch to this boat But the bulkhead in the anchor well isn't very robust and as I will only be fishing in fairly shallow water I am finding it hard to justify the extra $1,500 as it isn't that tough a job to pull the small anchors on this boat.

I still need to find a suitable spot for the deck wash pump and fit it, I also have to wait for the water pickup for the pump to arrive.

My next project is to replace the old cable type steering with a hydraulic system, This should arrive in 7-10 days and it will take the entire day to fit.
I Hate the cable steering as you cant take your hand off the helm and keep on a straight course like you can with the hydraulic steering.

The Quintrex has only got a 70HP 4 stroke on it but But at anything above idle it is pretty hard going trying to steer it with the current steering system on the boat.

Dual fuel tanks with separate fuel lines to the water separator. Sliding and rotating seat. I converted the tiller to side console with the ultra slippery Teleflex premium control cables. I fabricated the side console - pipe bender, TIG welder and 4 inch grinder/cutter. Very strong and has copped many poundings. Standing and sitting helm set up with fold up windscreen .
