Tare Weight

I was looking on Red Book and the tare weight of several vehicles intrigued me. Is the TDi Defender 210 kg heavier than a 4BD1 110?
TDi Defender 110 1977kg vs 4BD1 110 County 1760kg. I thought the Isuzu would outweigh the TDi, there is not that much different other than engines and gearboxes.

The Owners handbook for the 110 gives 1763kg for the 2.5D engine. The Australian supplement gives no weights, hence there is no listed weight for the Isuzu. The Redbook have simply taken the UK figure for a diesel 110. I'm guessing that the Isuzu would weigh at least a 100+kg more.

The Tdi has put on weight compared to the 110 with a lot more trim, heavier door frames, and probably a few other bits, none of them much by themselves, but all adding up.

I removed the rear seats (side facing ones) and had to put my Isuzu County over the weighbridge soon after I bought it in 1985 - it came in at 1998kg. Included bull bar, but no other accessories.

How much fuel? Don't forget there could be 60kg there.

Good point John, but a bit far back to remember - maybe say 1/2 tank.

I recall seeing a weight for the 2.5 diesel. I don't remember the value, but what stuck in my memory was that it was about 60kg less than a 4BD1.

Tare weights are a subject that is fraught with pitfalls. Some unladen figures are given with no fuel, water or oil, maybe even no spare; some have a part filled tank, full oil and water, and even a driver. Then there is optional equipment, such as the trim level, and extras such as airconditioning, which can add quite a bit.

Then the numbers are bandied about stripped of the details as to what they actually include, and you end up comparing apples and oranges!

These days Kerb Weight for Land Rovers is measured to the EEC standard which includes 90% fuel load and 75kg for a driver.

The 07+ 110 Station Wagon has a published Kerb Weight of 1900kg and a Gross Vehicle Mass of 2950 kg. The resulting Tare is 1050 kg.

You must mean disposable load - Tare = "the weight of a motor vehicle without its fuel or load" (ACOED), in other words, unladen weight.
