So much so that you never seem to sell them :D
There are 2 on the market that I could find at the moment: One that's too far away for $5000 and one that's closer for $12000
The only other late 80's landy is a rough V8 that is rather cheap.

I thought I must have been searching in the wrong categories and I never found any counties in the results, but it now appears it's because everyone holds on to them :)

Well - I put mine in storage while we lived OS rather than sell it...

Sales were also fairly low - especially of later models. In 1984, a 110 cost $22k new. In 1988 $44k!!!

People have told me that there were only 700 5-speed 110 countys sold, however I can't see that being true.

But keep looking, they do turn up.

They do turn up. Unfortunately most who own them know they're sought after now days so price reflects this. Expect to pay around 8 to 12K for a real good one.

worth is what some one is willing to sell for and what some one is willing to pay.

i have posted before that no well sorted 110 eather 200TDI 0r 300TDI including an isuzu will cost less than 15K, given that option an isuzu comes out ahead.

tldr; They don't come up much, and as they are getting old condition is everything. Many have had hard lives so it pays to check everything twice.

I looked for a long time before I got mine. In then end.. maybe I should have kept looking :o  ..naa I love it :D

Every once in a while you see one where someone has spent a packet making it really nice. They usually want twice the 'usual' money for it (I guess a quarter of what they spent doing it up) and everyone jumps up and down laughing with the 'tell him his dreaming' comments..

10months into my 'ultimate LR' project (a 110 Isuzu of course :) ) and I half wish I paid the 25k for one I saw like this.

As much as the prices are high, they are an old vehicle. Many years and a few hundred thousand Km's of wear and tear take their toll. If you want a good reliable, comfortable 110 you /will/ need to spend some money. Things like brittle plastic (in everything), things that are just warn out etc. I set myself a budget of $25k (incl. purchase price) to 'make it nice'. Not thinking 37inch tires and 4inch lift - just replace the bits that wear out with good quality parts, and add a few things etc.

I've done a lot, and it really is an incredible landrover there are a lot of 'little' things that break that do become annoying.

So stick to your guns. Don't lower your requirements and don't be afraid to pay a couple of grand extra for one that really has been looked after and is in top notch condition because if you have any problems that couple of grand isn't going to go far. Check *everything* when you buy and don't assume that because one is cheap is crap, or that because one is expensive its good.

Do you know something I don't???

County's have rear drums, no turbo, most have no (working) air. A PAS box costs $200, a PAS pump <$500, the sliding door tops are all alloy and quite nifty, but it is easy to switch to a hardtop and county/defender doors.

You sound like you are trying to convince people not to buy so you cjkl;\an have them all to yourself. :wasntme:

Probably a scammer. I have had a few people wanting to 'buy' my car for more than the asking price and pay via paypal. The scam is they then reverse the payment or something.

I saw that one on there. I was wondering how much beach work it has done, looking at the location.

I heard a rumour from someone in the military that the government is not going to sell the Perenties here in Australia - apparently it's all to do with vehicle emissions and the government doing their bit for the environment... Who knows? If they don't sell them here, then they'll be selling them somewhere surely? Even if to an overseas army. ;)

There are a million rumours floating about. Someone on here/remlr even obtained dates when they would be auctioned off.

The emissions argument sounds implausible, as they would fully comply with emissions for year of manufacture.

However they may sell/donate them to a nearby ally (though I hope not).

Still no roll up windows or 4 doors but it depends what you want. Also, I have only ever seen 2 (and I ain't lettin go of mine!) so they would be a rarity!

Gday Pete

yes Zambezi Silver a Land Rover colour. It looked good new. The roof and bonnet have started to go off. I hope to do a respray back to auscam.

I have a 300 tdi defender disc rear. complexity nil, as everything bolts up the same. The Perentie has a PBR booster and master brake set up. Axle cost $500. Then spent a heap on maxi axles and stainless steel sleeve/rebuild of calipers. I hated the drum rear, especially on corrugations and sand.

Even though they as you say get thrashed they are in really good condition, they are in better nic than most defenders, and parts are replaced with genuine parts some just because it's scheduled, the cars may sit for months with out moving but when the sevice is due parts are still swapped out so basically the old parts have no wear but are thrown out.

I am a mechanic in the army and I wouldn't hestitate at buying one.

i ment purchase price plus what you spend after

so $15g for purchase price + fixup + fitout. Sounds about right to me. That 15g will go a bit further on a county.

Like has been said on here, once you buy one of these cars, then unless your very lucky you have to start spending to get them just right.

Mine is a 1990 factory Isuzu County with under 300K Km's on the clock and 2 previous owners. She must have been one of the last County's sold in Aus, if not THE last.

Even though she's one of the newer Isuzu County's out there, in the last 2 years I've still spent over $13K on mine on parts (no labour charges), service items and accessories (I just totted up the receipts) That does not include the original purchase price of the car. True, you don't have to change as many things as I did, but I like my cars to drive just right and be very dependable. The good thing is once you've spent the cash, you know the car is good for another 20 years ;):D!!

Just to give you an idea of what might need replacing if you buy an older County, mine has had: Brand new LT85 solid case gearbox, Ashcroft recon transfer box, new clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, clutch slave cylinder, new prop uni's, new brakes (callipers, rotors, pads, rear wheel cylinders, rear shoes, booster, master cylinder), swivels fully re-built (new railko pins, railko bushes, taper bearings, seals), all new Timken wheel bearings and seals all round, new solid steering arms, new Lemforder balljoints, new steering drop arm balljoint, new uni on steering shaft, new springs, all suspension bushes replaced (mostly Poly), new anti-roll bar drop arms, new HD 'A frame' balljoint and A frame re-bushed, recored 4 core radiator, new radiator hoses, replacement exhaust, new battery, new dash surround, new seatbelts, + loads of other stuff that I can't recall off the top of my head.

I've also spent a few bob on genuine wolf rims and some BFG muddies.

As you'd expect with the Isuzu motor; apart from regular servicing (oil and filters, fuel filters and air filters) I've only had to spend about $100 on the engine itself That was a new thermostat and 'O' ring and a new pressure relief (overflow return) valve on top of the fuel filter housing. I also changed the radiator and hoses but that was more a preventative measure as the copper cooling fins had started to degrade on the old one and I had a big trip coming up.

As with most cars you spend a fortune, get them just right and then sell them!! I was NEVER going to sell this car, but we're heading back overseas, so a quick heads up for you guys on this sub-forum, keep your eyes on the markets section of this site in about 5 weeks time (mid April 2010).

I am just about to get into my 86 Isuzu build up as an expedition/trip vehicle.

Just need to sell the 04 TD5 Disco first but that may be in progress:)

Currently assesing the overall budget and getting stuff priced up:eek:

Not really an option to do it myself as limted time and no workshop prevent this..

It's a really good base to start from as it has had a $ 2000 engine rebuild by the prev owner and a diesel gas injection system fitted and a rebuilt LT95 box. It goes like the powers now ( that is all relative of course) and the purchase included a loose Garrett Turbo that I would get fitted.

Dare I say it but if a good 99TD5 Fender came up I may consider selling the County:eek:

Apologies to all my Isuzu brothers :o

I'll be putting an ad up as soon as we get back from our trip to the south coast of WA, which is after our house sale is settled and the international removal people have been (in a fortnight).

If I don't get the asking price, then I'll leave her in the shed at the in-laws place and use her when we visit each year, but to be honest I'd rather see her go to a good home.

If I don't get the asking price, then I'll leave her in the shed at the in-laws place and use her when we visit each year, but to be honest I'd rather see her go to a good home.

Hi Jon,
Don't forget, my mate is quite keen - and he will definitely look after it...

No worries Ben, hadn't forgotten :)

I'll call you as soon as we get back from our trip, which will be in just over 4 weeks time (our buyers sorted out their finance and our house is now definitely sold :arms: so our camping trip is a 'goer').
