Hello folks,

I am a newbie to this forum and I am hoping somebody can give me some advice. I currently own a toyota 4runner but since buying a camper I now need something with a bit more towing ability.

I have been looking at the discovery, diesel, 1990-1999 in the 5-10K price range. There seems to be some very good opportunities out there.

Am I being unrealistic in my price range, and what do I need to look out for.

Any advice would be greatfully appreciated.

Cheers

Wal.

Big can of worms here.

Landies are probably a bit more maintenace than the 4runner.

At that age they are getting on a bit so a full and complete service history is a must.
Have any car checked by a Landy Specialist and drive many as they do vary from car to car.
Those years 93-99 do cover 2 motor variants the 300 tdi and the 5 cyl TD5.

The latter has more power and torque but is more involved to look after.
The 300 is basic, economical and sturdy.

Pick of the bunch be a well cared for '98 300 tdi.
Should get good one for 6-9K and than spend a bit on service and getting right for you.

They are wicked cars and once right, many owners do hold on to them, like me.

thanks for the reply, I favour low tech so it sounds like the 300 tdi would be preferred. Are the timing belts at 100K and what would the maximum K's I should look for.

Cheers
