driving along the other day i noticed a house with an old series 2 parked in the driveway with junk all around it.

i got out to take a closer look. form what i could make out, it appeared to be a very original looking ex military series 2a.

i got home and did some research on remlr and have concluded that it looks exactly like what is known as a "workshop vehicle".

i went back the other day and had a better look. the door tops are rottten but that is it. the rest of it appears better than average. in army paint with the timber tray and tool boxes and all the army extras i know of.

my question is this? is this a rare or desirable landy? what could i expect to pay for such a car? (complete but not running) i am thinking of restoring it, the owner said make an offer and i just want to know what is fair.

thanks

X2, although the desireability factor is up a bit with me. I have paid about that for a couple of mine and been able to drive them on to the trailer. Do you have the luxury (of time at least) to get a couple of pics and maybe a chassis number before a decision has to be made. This would help with the accuracy of any advise you may get.

Besides any damage or rust it may have, does it have tool holders, brushbar, canvas, pintle, etc. Although the year does not make to much difference, there are a few years that are a little bit more desirable that others

The chassis number would also be good for the REMLR records.

all the tool holders are there. it is a 1965 model. i will try get some numbers in any case. it looks very complete, spotlights pintle and canvass tilt. i dont know much about these rovers but it honestly looks as if it has just come from the army .

yeah it has at least 2 extra lights that i can remember. one on the bullbar and a second on the windscreen hinge. from memory they both look as though they should be there.

Not from the (Army) factory, but may (doubt it though) have been fitted "in service". Windscreen hinge mount was used for mirrors.

I have in-service pictures of a wksp with an auxilliary light mounted in the position described. I'll try and find it...

Hi Marcello, I have a 1965 workshop and whilst I don't know what its worth in $$$ its worth heaps to me. It's the best vehicle I've ever owned. I found mine 10 years ago and have slowly restored it. It's currently off the road and that happens time to time. There's always something you need to fix but that's the nature of these beasts. The rear left brake pipe burst just as I parked it in the driveway 3 weeks ago and i'd say its the original pipe. And the wiper motors need some TLC to get going again... a bit of grease required I'd say. It's all part of the fun. Once they're up and running, they're unstoppable.

Sorry forgot to mention, I paid $1000 for mine but the motor and electricals were 100% in operating order. I needed to replace the master / slave clutch cyclinders, replace a front window, find a new LHS door top and straighten the RHS chassis main member. So if the one you've seen doesn't have an operating motor I'd agree with the other fellows and go for $500. Check the chassis and make sure its straight. I didn't know mune was bent until i realised I couldn't turn the wheel to the right. But if you really like I'd say don't be afraid to offer a bit more if it comes to that.
