I saw TD5 today

I drove past a classic that was running on a TD5. His plate was TD5PWR, so as we were driving along wells road we had a mid road convo. It was a very clean machine. Had trouble hearing him as we were doing 80K's he said he swapped panels and it was a disco frame, I think I lost some there in the mid convo translation.

thats really interesting, will be doing this to my soft dash soonish, was wondering would it be easier to put the body on a disco chassis or just put the engine and box in. the compushift system makes the latter a lot easier. well spotted :D

Thats if its the white one i'm thinking of?:)

Sounds neat. I saw a RRC with a Disco 1 front end in a mag. Nice look - like a Disco without the hump in the roof.

I'd be interested to hear how you go in doing this, I have also been thinking about this for a long time. I want to build the ultimate offroader with a td5 in it :D Is the D2 chassis similar to the RRC chassis, I think a few body mounts would have to be changed. I think it would just be easier to move the engine mounts and mount it to an R380 out of a rangie, that way the gear lever would all be the same still etc.

Hi Hendrik, as is allways the way the cash i was going to do the conversion with looks like its going on a daily drive. hope to make a start on it this year though. there is a high klm d2 td5 on ebay at the moment that would be a good base for mine. I really want the conversion to be as factory as i can as i want to keep my rangie original. will be going the auto on mine with the compushift. still very keen to do it. will keep you posted.

I will be going for the factory look also, but I will do it in pre-soft dash model...simply because you can find them cheap. How much will the compushift set you back, would love to know more about it. I take it, it doesnt have much to do with the engine ECU, the way the ZF does in the auto td5's. My plan is to use an early defender loom, mated up to an R380. Simply because I'd like to run tombie's big chip, which is easier to do in the manuals.

I see you are in Ipswich, let me know when you get going with the project, would love to come around and have a look at your progress.

we are moving next weekend to birnam, between beaudesert and tamborine buts its probs the same distance from you, your more than welcome to call in ( you can bring your overalls ). have a look at ashcrofts sit there is some great info on there. the compushift lets the box run independantly. I was thinking of doing the install then getting in touch with bell auto services to help sort the ecu. to be honest i still have grand delusions of a rangie conversion business, would love to do a kit for a TDV6 into a p38a :) as allways though would anybody want to buy it ??
