It has been raining up here a bit & having the kids inside has been driving my Missus mad so I decided to take the 4 oldest for a drive up to Hells Gate & let them climb about on the rocks for an hour or 2.
Drove up & the road was petty dry with just a bit of squish & a couple of decent wash outs, no problems.
Sitting on to of the rocks looking back at Doomadgee (waiting for a kid to fall, very agile our foster boys) I noticed some real black clouds building up in the far distance, rounded up the kids, which took some time & headed on home.
Started running into some light rain about 40k out, by 20 k out it was howling down & the road had turned to absolute slush.
Switched to Mud/Ruts, slowed to about 65kph, vision was not to good, caught up to a Yota Troopie. This bloke was sliding & swinging all over the road which is a pretty wide road & the Disco was just driving along with barely a wiggle, no dramas no huge amounts of opposite lock, just gentle corrections.
Finally the troopie ended up in the table drain so I stopped to help but he got out on his own, at least I got ahead of him & could drive at my own speed.
I have driven this road countless time in all sorts of 4WD's & it has always been a whole lot of fun trying to stay on the road when it is this wet, but no, the Disco just does it's thing & you just drive without even raising a sweat let alone nervious tension.
Bit boring really - but at my age boring is good.:D
Pity I didn't get to rescue that Yota.

PS Not sure I like the auto wipers, they go rank in heavy rain & are over sensitive, but not consistent in light rain.

I've pulled the fuse on the auto wipers, returning them to ordinary intermittant. Auto was almost OK in light rain at city speeds but went a bit crazy over 100kph.

Nice story. Should be in DS's 'Why I love my Landie' thread.

A further note on the auto wipers.
It may be just my perception but they seem to get less sensitive the long they are working.
Today we had a fair bit of light misty rain & being Tuesday I had to do the school pick up run. On the way to the school the wipers went off with the slightest hint of rain (set to min) but after picking up the kids & driving about a bit they seemed to allow enough rain onto the screen to work properly.
As I said, could just be I imagined it.

Once the rain gets heavy I tend to switch the wipers to full or DEFCON 4 manually....... the auto wipers seem to get their knickers in a twist when it gets heavy.......

Jonesfam, I would agree with that, but then that might just mean we are both making things up in our heads.
