Anyone know where I can buy some of this in Australia that is suitable for automotive application? Would it be legal to paint it on a trailer or vehicle?

Autolac in mitchel rd at cardiff just off munybung rd on top of the hill after the workers club could probably order it for you.we dont use them any more as they cant match paint very well but since you just want to order some they would be my first port of call.If not try a realy good panelbeating shop theres a few realy good ones around..If not try a big auto paint surplyer in sydney they will have it or get it in for you..

dobbo, what are you thinking.....

Imagine the heart attack they'd have at the RTA if you did it..

"what colours your car"

its a bluey-red colour

"so its purple?"

no, its blue ATM, its parked in the shade.

"but didnt you drive in in a red car"

yes but it was in the sun then it was warmer

"so your red car turns blue in the shade"

sometimes, the body goes blue when the aircons on but the engine bay goes red then. Its also usually blue up in the mountains, or if its raining lots

"sir are you being a smart ass with me, what colour is your car"

thermocromatic

"see now was that difficult? ok so in laymans terms whats the nearest basic colour to that?"

its a bluey-red.

Hence why I asked about the legality of it.

A mate of mine had his bike (FZR 1000) painted in that paint,it cost him a fortune, don't know if the cost has come down since, he had the bike done about 10 yrs ago,it did look fantastic though.

As far as i know its not illegal. I did think it was pretty cool stuff at top gear live when they had the 4 ford focus' that went from blaco to white.

Would be cool dobbo. Maybe a phone call to the rta is in order. I will ask at work when im back on next and see if the highway patrol goes know much about it.

cant be any more legal or illegal than the harlequin paint that gets used on cars.......and harleys......they are all street registered........

like thermo fax paper (where the print fades over time) painting your truck with this heat/light reactive paint will led to your vehicle ultimately disappearing so for goodness sake don't tell your insurer

yea...... fancy paint kinda puts insurance companies off, one guy i know had no option other than to insure with shannons, even then at a higher price, simply because everyone else refused to insure him the moment they found out it was painted in a harlequin paint....

he never got to tell them about the rest of the fun stuff he'd done to it!

and dobbo...... you're not gonna paint the turdis in that thermochromatic stuff are you?

No, another project but it would be good to have a tourer that changes colour in extreme heat or cold.

How sensitive is it? Does it change colour if the heater is on?

What about after curry night?

Cool, swirly vapour trails. It'll look like you've got clouds painted on the car.

Remember that bath.

Why does that feel wrong asking that to another man?

Anyway

bugger it, the truth is going to come out anyway I am painting the gimps box so we know when she is sleeping. Whilst doing it we are going to give the float a dose of bling, some pimpin' gold spinners, hydraulic tailgate, LED's all over, over sized cup holders to hold my snoop style pimp cup and a bumper sticker on the back "he may be Red and hairy but he's a better ride than you" should look good when I'm driving especially since the wife no longer rides a chestnut horse.

Hi.The thermochromic paint is not standing up to the QLD sun.Have seen test samples that were overcoated with a top quality UV clear, that after as little as 12 months in the Queensland sun,DOES NOT change colour anymore.I was going to paint my car in the Black paint that when the sun/heat hit it, changed to different shades of grey and then finally ended up white. The paint is made in the US,not cheap. Can be brought online or some automotive paint mixing shops will order it for you.
