Defender 130 Door Latch

Currently having difficulties with passenger door remaining shut on TD5 130. When you go to shut door, the striker device seems to not latch. As a consequence, striker bounces against the door pillar plate. Manual intervention required to reset door striker latch.

On other occasions, when driving the door mysteriously opens and wife not pleased.:angry:

Has anyone had similar problems? I don't believe it is door adjustment or pillar striker plate alignment. Believe within door latch system. Any clues??:angel:

Usually it's the striker on the B pillar that has moved or the plastic stuff on the striker that has worn off. New striker costs just about nothing.

Plastic stuff is about 10mm outside diameter hose over 8mm metal centre. I cut this out of mine and welded pieces from 10mm bolt rather than buy original rubbish from spare parts.

When plastic on passenger side door was partly worn out, with road vibration it made annoying squeak that took me a while to diagnose.

Some of the later catches werent very well manufactured, I've been down the adjustment route many times with them and now just replace with a new one. Funnily enough doesn't seem to happen very often with early Defenders, only later Td5's.:confused:

my DS door latch is playing up, it will only open from the outside handle.
I pulled it down and tried to get it to work but to no joy.

Would you say replace the internal latching mechanism?

I had an isssue with a door lock on out previous TD5 Defender. When driving, the door would open onto the outer latch and it didn't need a corrugated road for this to occur. No amount of adjusting helped. I finished uo changing the whole latching mechanism and had no further problems.

i have found a good blow out with 3in1 silicon spray has worked a treat on mine... they seem to dry out and get sticky... mine on the 110 would close fully and then bounce open if you slammed it.. you actually had to pull it slowly for it to latch.... it was also opening to the first latch while driving (which rach wasnt happy about either!)

Has to be worth a try... i also got new striker plates but they did nothing really... i think the latch being sticky / moving slowly doesnt react quick enough to clamp round the striker.... mines been fine for the last few months now...

had the same problem on my td5110tr the door just poped open a bit then started to open on its own a couple of weeks after that, pulled the whole thing apart some of the plastic bits in the mechanism had given up the will to live , called land roverland and they sorted it out ,so happy wife happy life hopes this helpshttp://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/icons/icon7.gif
