Hi all:)
Today when mum was driving to work, the disco lost all drive.
She was taking off from the side of the road on a slight hill when it just went "clunk" and no go...
We got it home this arvo and had a look at it, when the engine is running and the gearbox is in gear, slowly letting the clutch out a rattling noise seems to be comng from the g'box:(
To me it sounds like a broken main shaft or something. it's a 92 200tdi that we have converted to an r380 box.
Any thoughts on what it might be?
Thanks in advance...CHEERS TIM.

Stick in 4th (1:1 straight through the g'box), engage diff lock and see what happens.
If still no drive, chances are that the output shaft is FUBAR. :(

If no drive in 4th, to check output shaft / tcase input gear : rattle off the PTO cover and inspect. The gear that is looking at you is the TCase input gear, the shaft broached into it is the R380 output shaft... The splines if not well lubricated fret wear and lead to stripping of the splines resulting in no drive.

Just wondering what the outcome of this was? I had a very similar thing happen to me today.

Turned out to be a broken main shaft:angel:
Dad has rebuilt another R380 and we fitted it to the disco and all is good:cool:

I've taken the 3dr off the road to use as a donor car for the comp car I'm building. I recently brought a 97 300TDI as a work car. Brought it for 4.5k with what I thought was a noisey transfer case. I have a transfer case lined up to swap into it, but now this has happened it seems like it may have been the gear box.
Will let you know what we find in mine, hopefully will have some info tomorrow.
