Left hand engine mount, near where it is welded on to chassis. If not there it could be anywhere on the top of the left chassis near there. I have not seen this but have been told it happenedto the CKD vehicles.

On 80" (1948-53) Land Rovers the chassis number is located on the top face of the passenger's side engine mount parallel to the inner guard. However, some vehicles assembled by Annand & Thompson in Brisbane for distribution in Queensland and the Northern Rivers area of NSW may have the chassis number stamped along the top face of the chassis rail between the engine mount and the radiator support panel (sometimes s p r e a d o u t !).

The "R" prefix was dropped from vehicle number 06110348 if it was meant for the British market but was still used on Export vehicles until the end of 1950 model production (as was the "L" prefix for left hand drive vehicles.) The numbers on the chassis and ID plate should match.

In a 1950 model there should be a blackened brass or black anodised aluminium ID plate about 65mm x 40mm stamped with the number 061xxxxx screwed to the top passengers side on the firewall in the engine bay. In 1951 the ID plate was moved inside the vehicle and is larger, still in anodised aluminium.

The engine number is situated on the front edge of the block on the passengers side of the engine immediately in front of the exhaust manifold and alloy core plug. If you look at that location there are very small numbers stamped along the edge. The engine number may be many hundreds of numbers different to the chassis/ID number.
