My world for the day is now complete, I can go to bed now.
Is it just me, or is the new Who a bit off.........?
I mean, what is with all the lovey dovey stuff with Clara and the Dr.???
Every episode thus far, has had some sort of Love spat, with Clara having little Tantrums. It's like an episode of Coronation St.
Don't get me wrong, massive Who fan here, but seriously this is just getting a bit much. The last ep was the best so far, Orient Express in space, but it just got too soppy at the end.
I get it, Clara is upset that new Who is "old looking", but I/we? got that about half an hour into the first ep!
I like the new Who, good Humour and Witty, but bring back Tennant, or even Smith..........
I hope the second series will Improve.
I'd like to spend a bit of time with Clara! :p
I'm not convinced about Capaldi as the Doctor. I wonder when (if) they'll address his previous appearance in the series as the nobleman whose family the Doctor saves in Pompeii?
I have to say not impressed with Capaldi, don't know if it's his fault or if it's the poor quality of the stories so far. For a Dr who loves the earth and humans, he seems very indifferent to their fate as witnessed in the episode "orient express". Clara seems to have a far more upfront roll in this series. Not that I object to that. All in all not the best so far, but time will tell (pun intended)
She certainly was more up front in that dress she was wearing on the Orient Express. We won't discuss the difference between "role" and "roll" when it comes to Clara.... :)
But you're right about the stories. I said much the same to my wife. She now doesn't care if she misses an episode.
I don't see the relationship in quite that light. I think the comment below is closer to the mark.
That's interesting. What you have described as a weakness, I regard as a strength.
Remember the fish fingers and custard? Like the current Dr, that Dr took a while to get things straight in his head. In the earlier case, it was simple matter like his food preference. In the case of the current Dr it is his moral compass that is slightly confused. Fortunately he has Clara to guide him in what she considers to be the right direction. I don't think it is a coincidence that she is cast as a school teacher.
The spats or tantrums mentioned above are more about her disapproval of his decisions or his morality.
Remember in the promos we heard the Dr ask Clara if he was a good man and Clara's hesitant, non committal response. That is the key to the new Dr and his relationship with Clara.
I like the new relationship between the Dr and his companion. It is quite different from earlier relationships. I seem to remember that the lovely Leela often needed to be dissuaded from making inappropriate decisions. Now Clara has a similar role.
Clara was initially taken aback by the fact that he was old and there have been a few running gags about age in most episode. However, Clara is more upset by the Dr's judgement than his age.
I think that the moral or ethical confusion of the current Dr allows the scripts to explore some new ideas. I like it.
Capaldi is growing on me. No doubt they will flesh out the dark recesses of his psyche over the next series or 2. The show is still overly camp but it is just slightly less so than the last few series IMO. I read somewhere that this series is pitched at a more adult audience -I suppose because many Dr Who fans are getting a bit these days- but I would like them to pitch a bit harder in that direction.
I actually like Capaldi, the series seems to be more 'Darker' than previous ones.
Yes Clara is cute and hot. ;)
They still have pop ups which leave you wondering like the scene on the planet where Clara and the Dr and chained down and she says we will die of starvation and he comes back with the sand piranhas will get us long before that!
Also the 'Promised Land' where everyone who dies ends up in.
Whats with the Gatekeeper Missy?
