Went with 2 friends last night. We are all fans of the originals (except Thunderdome...is anyone?) I went in with an open mind, didn't watch any of the previews or read any reviews but I've been hanging out for 4 years for this. Hate to say it but none of us enjoyed it.
The cars were too over-the-top and looked professionally made, not cobbled together and believable like in max 2. For a civilization supposedly lacking in fuel, they didn't mind using it up!
One endless car chase after the other with no variation to the theme. It really is just one big car chase with a boring 30 min in the middle with some soul searching which just feels out of place.
The main story theme was absolute rubbish.
Acting was terrible. Tom Hardy has about 10 lines in the movie and it was more about Charlize who did a much better job. The other chicks were shockingly bad.
The music score didn't work in the quiet parts and the rock track was the same track used throughout the rest of the whole movie with that stupid guitarist strapped out the front of that truck.
It was so drawn out I started to pick on the technical flaws, which there are many.
I realise it's aimed at 14 year old boys who only want to see explosions, loud noises and don't care about the story line but I came away from it really disappointed. It's not a movie that will be watched over and over in the future like max 1 and 2. I do rate it above Thunderdome though, but only just.
I also know that there will be others that loved it and I respect that.

    Cheers

It's good to know I'm still only 14

And FWIW I'm usually into arthouse fillums, but enjoyed this one.

I understand where you are coming from. I liked Thunderdome so, according to you, I should like this new one.

I don't watch mad max for intelligent plot development or characterisations.
I watch it to see crazy cars blowing up

Fury Road......Furious I went to see it.

Don't really know how to say it. On the one hand I wasn't expecting that once in a lifetime movie experience. But on the other I expected more.
No back story. Unless you have seen the originals you have no idea who Max 'is'
No storyline, storytelling just one big.......nothing!
    Poor acting, poor dialogue.
I'm sorry to say I thought it was ****e!
But I'm prepared to be wrong. Many others have loved it.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I intend too. I have heard various reports about it, both good and bad, so I guess I'm prepared for plenty of car chase scenes and not much of a plot, but who cares, I'm going anyway.

I believe this modified FX had a part in it. Looks awesome!!!!

I was given gold class tickets in June last year, and had been waiting for a decent flick to use them on.

Very torn after watching this. Some of it was great, i.e. the stunts, cinematography and some of the locations.

However... (possible SPOILER ALERT, but I think most people already understand the simple plot)

The story was not that bad, but poorly executed. I thought there was gaping contradictions in premise, i.e. post apocolypse, yet fuel and ammo were wasted (why did they need such a cavalcade of pursuers for one ****ing truck with 2 real dangers on-board?!).

In a nutshell, not gritty enough for me, but kept me entertained.
