    Joker

OK. This needs to be out there. I know this movie will be divisive. Maybe that is what makes it great. Because, make no mistake, it is GREAT. Not for everyone, that's for sure, but the great ones never are.

Joker is astonishing. Don't even think about commenting until you watch it.

If you HAVE watched it you are allowed to hate it, but a good reason for hating it would help.

IMO it's the best film I've seen for 30 years.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm not really PC. Neither is Joker. Joker is scary, wild, disturbing.

I thought it was bloody fantastic. A clever film that taps in to general mood boiling under the surface in society today, I think.

    Joaquin Pheonix is brilliant.

I'm fascinated. I agree, but I thought I was the only one that saw this, the general mood. At least here, on this forum.

Really? If he doesn't get the Oscar then I'll know that what I've thought about the credibility of the Academy will be justified. Joaquin Phoenix is a genius.

I agree with you 100%, btw. Sometimes this software is stupid.

I can only agree. TBO,(without getting too spongy) I found it quite emotional.

I think the ghost of Heath Ledger was evident in this film, don't get me wrong this performance was all Joaquin's, but I think Heaths performance opened the door to let this one fully "go there".

Yep, He deserves that award big time. We know what the PC folk of movie town are like.

BTW Did you notice how light he was on his feet? He can dance that's for sure and did you see Walk The Line? That's a soundtrack I listen to all the time - great voice.

I imagined that this would be the TAKE.... Ledger would be what we would judge this by... Heath was great, Heath was Australian, all of that.... I get it. I really do. Ledger was fantastic Ledger played what the movie asked of him, and he did it well But this is a totally different movie... THIS is the movie the comic writers were writing.

And Phoenix transcends anything Ledger did. I have never seen a film like it.

Sorry. I have still not got over this film. It's astonishing.

I totally agree, it is a completely different film. I'm absolutely not wanting to compare the two performances because there is nothing to compare. Just really saying that Ledger took the joker character from a stupid frivolous character to one with depth in a way that had not been seen before. That move with it's superhero, actions scenes and the like made it fantastical so less deep. Where as the Joker had none of that, you spent the whole movie in his head so you got to really understand him and empathise, I was totally engrossed. So much so that I had to stop myself from clapping with the (on screen) audience when he was invited down on to the stage for a chat with the talk show host.

The leap that Ledger made was made again by Pheonix in spades. I don't think they should be compared, they both stand in their own right.
    Cheers,
