    Wayne (Gardner)

On Thursdays, some friends with whom I ride, meet for lunch.

Today, we were going to ride to the Australian MotorLife Museum at Kembla Grange, near Wollongong The Australian Motorlife Museum - The Australian MOTORLIFE Museum

The museum has a permanent Wayne Gardner display which we wanted to see.

However, as 36 deg C was forecast, we decided to skip the ride and have lunch at my place (probably a good idea, one of our number rode after lunch last Thursday and collapsed at the end of the ride - and it wasn't that hot last week).

Whilst talking, one of our group mentioned a documentary about Gardner that was shown on ABC-TV a few days back. I had a look on ABC iView and found it. It's called "Wayne" and is available until 24th December.

I've just finished watching it and can recommend it if you like motor bicycles.

And Remy won the final Moto2 race on Portugal last weekend.

Looks like a chip off the old block.

Euro pundits are saying he'd take to MotoGP like a duck to water.

I think that’s the show (Outback Ringers) my wife watches. I watched a little of it but decided earplugs were a better option.

    Noice.

Wally Storey was chief engineer, an old mate purchased Mawer Engineering from him when he went to HRT to develop their cars before going to WGR.
He dropped into my mates shop during the WGR years for a few hours for a chat when I was working there.
    It was an interesting time.

He done very well considering he was on a 2019 chassis, hopefully he carries over that form into 2021 with the KTM team!

Some interesting background info on the NSR500

Interesting beast with two timing modes developed through WG input.

Wayno had to tame the beast before any of the refinement that Mick enjoyed. 88 was a nightmare. It must of been hard dealing with the Japanese guys intent on building the best engines and not so much the frame.

Matt Oxley had some interesting info on that beast.

The upside down pipes/engine mirrored race car thinking, get the CofG as low as possible.
Unfortunately bikes don't work like cars.
It took then quite a while to sort it

Why did so many Australians dislike Wayne Gardner?
