Egypt With The World's Greatest Explorer

Sir Ranulph Fiennes and cousin Joseph explore Egypt. Lots of Land Rovers.

I've just watched these three programs in a row tonight. These two blokes hardly knew each other before the doco was shot, and it shows. it's a bit dorky in places and the chat between the two of them quite stiff. Having said that, it's good to see Ranulph still in fine fettle and hear of some of his past exploits.

Oh...I thought you meant Dora the Explorer. I guess this Ranulph person will do.

I must admit I have not heard of either of them and had to google them both. While Sir Ran has certainly done a lot of exploring etc I am not sure he is the World's Greatest Explorer but I guess it does not matter.

I watched it as well and enjoyed it but didn't quite understand the underlying "competition" between the two - didn't do a lot for the experience. They kept on referring to the Series 3 as a Defender but I guess that is becoming the norm these days where all Series are more often being referred to as Defenders.

The Disco 5 went well and survived its crash off the top of a dune quite well even if the roof luggage didn't. Given where they were going I think the Series 3 cooling system could have been better prepared.

While I was aware of the attacks on tourists in the past I did not appreciate how dangerous Egypt still is overall for western visitors.

I've got his book 'Atlantis of the Sands' published in 92, where he describes his attempt to reach the North Pole on foot, and also his search for the lost city of Ubar in the
    Empty Quarter (Rubal Khali).

I missed the start but still a good watch, glad I got to visit Egypt when it was relatively safe.
