Remember the old LJ Suzuki's?

Yep,great little vehicles.
I bought the second LJ80 sold in Australia,it was a dark brown hardtop.I would have been the first,but the dealer decided that he would register one for himself first,which was a light blue trayback.
Was also one of the very early members of the Suzuki owner club here in Sydney.
In all the years as an owner and member of the club,the only place I ever saw an LJ roll over was on the road,usually going around a bend on the way to a trip.Or the guys deliberately driving sideways across the face of the biggest sand dune they could find at either Kurnell or Stockton and then stopping and letting the vehicle roll over all the way to the botom(softtops with the screen folded down) and then just starting them up and driving away.Gotta love 2 strokes.

They are pretty much a collectors item now.
Best attended club trips I have seen were with the Suzuki club.It wasn't unusual to see 20-30 cars just on a driver training trip.And it was quite a sight to see a line of 20 or more LJs lined up on the side of the road,waiting to set of on a trip somewhere.The 70's were a prime time for real 4wders in Sydney,great tracks and only people that were 4wd enthusiasts,as there were no creature comforts in the available vehicles.

Awesome:)...most of the LJ's these days have died due to rust..:(

Here's my Suzuki Maruti.
It's built in India, 1000cc engine once owned by QLD GEO.
Sold it to finance my Formula Vee. My D2 went just about every where the Zook did and was cheaper to run with more comfort. That's also where Zute comes from, Zook Ute.

Had an LJ80 with a corolla motor.
Killed it in 2 weeks and went back to a Landy. Good bus on sand etc. Not so good on rough stuff and a little tippy.
Had a SJ80 not so long ago and sold that as too many people laughing at me getting in and out of it ( I'm not sensitive honest!).

I remember driving an original 2 stroke LJ way back in the 1970's.

I borrowed it from The Albury Ford dealer and drove it around the block.


It had absolutely NO discernible acceleration AFAIR.

I recall thinking it must be only running on 2 out of 3 , but the sound was the same, like some slightly angry bees. It took about 1 kilometer to get to 60Kmh.
I left it thinking that those things are just dangerous.

I owned a Vitara for a while and IMHO they were underrated. Mine was a carby one and they would flood when going up really steep hills. Made life interesting.

LJ's were't designed for the road at all:lol2:

Made for the farm and rual bush use.. top speed for a LJ50 is about 80kph, and LJ80's, LJ81's[ute] with the 800cc 4 cylinder for them top speed is 100kph..

bushrover..I hope you can save that LJ50..that body looks really sad..hope the rust isn't too bad:(
