Hi guys,
I'm back, thought I'd renew my subscription. Keen to start reading up on the new defender and be part of the community again [emoji109][emoji6]
So I thought I'd share a update on my y62. So far i've done 45,000kms in 1 year and 9 months.
How's it been? Fantastic! Hasn't missed a beat! I've put a TJM explorer bar on, TJM Ultima LED driving lights (unbelievably good, highly recommend), wispbar roof bars and i run a yakima skybox when needed for all our beach gear, ko2s same size as standard and replaced the rear lights with after market ones (looks much better I think).
I've kept the mods practical and minimal considering most of what we do now with the kids is highway miles to get somewhere.
We've taken the mighty y62 to Adelaide, the Barossa valley, the great ocean rd to Melbourne, Philip island, Mildura, dubbo, gundagai, Noosa, Brisbane, gold coast, Byron bay, wagga wagga and some that I've surely forgotten. It's been comfortable , reliable, safe, powerful when I've needed it to be and most importantly just a pleasure to drive.
The average fuel since day dot is 15.4 liters/100kms. I average 18-20 in the eastern suburbs of Sydney in terrible traffic (It's horrendous these days), and 11-12.5 on the highway. Please note that the highway figure is attained at a true gps max speed limit plus some extra k's depending where we are and with the car is fully loaded with family, gear, prams, fridge etc
I always try use 98 octane, however have run 95 on a couple of occasions. I really don't care about the extra 10c a litre and if I can always run 98 when available.
The space in this thing is unbelievable and you start to take it for granted. Friends will come and pick me up to give me a lift to soccer or the pub or whatever and I end up sitting in the back of their car and just think I'm crammed! Lol
This thing is a BEAST, it is by far the best vehicle I've owned. Most underrated 4wd in Australia by a country mile in my opinion!
There it is gents, 45,000km review.

Loving ours too. 35kkm, not one issue, love the power and ease of driving. 13.2L/100 average since new, pretty happy with that.
Really happy you guys are having a great run with the big Nissans,,, [smilebigeye]
Good news!! I would say that if we weren't going to be towing big loads, then I probably would've gone through with it!
ARB have recently released a Bull Bar for the latest generation Y62.
Yet they have no interest at all in the D5.
The D5 it too complicated, some will use the word sophisticated instead but the reality is that they are more at home in the city than out. I'd imagine ARB probably sat down thought about it and said not worth the investment as a result.
You can get pretty much anything you want for a y62 now, so that is a big plus.
Wasn't the fuel economy mostly for me. I have a van with 250kg ball weight, and sometimes tow car trailers for work that would easily approach 350. Having to fit polyair bags to a new vehicle was a small, but annoying fact. The lack of a decent stability control program specifically tailored to towing when trailer is attached also put me off. The rangie has the edge in all those departments, however as you remember it WAS a very close decision. I like them, but the RR suited all my needs.
