The rangie has the edge in all those departments, however as you remember it WAS a very close decision. I like them, but the RR suited all my needs.
Out of curiosity what is the RR's GVM?
Reason I ask is because the best stability control one can have is to ensure the vehcile towing the van is as heavy or heavier then the load being towed, and the patrol has a 3500kg gvm.

    Nissan Y62 Reliability? Issues?

I'm thinking of selling my 2014 D4 HSE as it's cost me about $8k in repairs in the last few months, and it's always been properly serviced.

I know that a few people here have or had Y62s - any reliability issues to report?

Just remember that if you don't want to spend money on a car in repairs, 2 wheel drives are the way to go.

I met 2 guys with late model y62's and they went on about how brilliant they were, definitely get one they said... Then followed by " but don't buy model X, oh and if you get model Y you'll need to change this and this... But with the model Z all we had to do was..... And don't forget to update....."

All 4wds cost money to keep maintained.

One that is the cheapest would be an 80 series, and they only use 15-16 litres per hundred for the diesel when not towing.. The petrols? You wouldn't want to know!

You will however save a lot of money on speeding fines!

80 series Land Cruisers with under 250,000 km are going for between $50k and up to $90k ...... lower prices mean over 300,000km.

I drove an 80 series in PNG and frankly those prices are insane.

Oh yes, agreed... They are horrid to drive and travel in.

But they would definitely be one of the cheapest to maintain!

A Prado may also be ok, in fact I know of some that feel they are a nicer vehicle to travel in than a 200 series.

A recent post on the dedicated owners section of the caravanners forum ( Nissan ) shows there may be gearbox problems if used for towing.

There MAY, but there's not, definitely no worse than any other make. Just service it like any other auto.
Plus who believes what's said on a Caravanners forumY62 patrol

Hmmm, pre feb 2013 had timing chain issues, nothing after that, so I don't know what they are talking about.

Diesel 80 series is more thirsty than my V8 patrolY62 patrol

Sorry, I have no other info, they could have been full of it..I really don't know!

I guess anyone that tries to take a petrol V8 outback as far as they did could be questioned as to sanity.... Although it was funny to watch them flying along past everyone, only to have to double back for fuel when they realised they wouldn't make it!! Ironically wasting more fuel in the process, they seemed pretty cranky about that.
