No headlighs on a 79 series

I went to use our 79 series the otjer night and the headlighs failed to work, Both high and low beam.
The lights do come on when I use the "flasher" and the fuses seem to be good.
Compared to my D2a the fusing system in the 79 series is archaic so I am thinking the problem is in the switch itself.
Before I start pulling the steering coloumb apart is there anything else I should be looking at?

An acquaintance had a similar problem a few years ago - turned out to be the dip switch had burnt out. Apparently there's a relay near the radiator, too, that can be a problem. (His was a 6 cylinder).

The dip switch is like a "cartridge" setup. Remove the shroud, unclip the wiring plug on the bottom, then a couple of screws holding the black "cartridge" (complete with stalk), which pulls out. Replace all, and drive away!

I am hoping it isn't the switch because getting one in the middle of the Gulf is going to be problematic, I havent been able to find the headlight relay yet so I will have a look up near the radiator for it
We have been having dramas with ants getting into various electrics and causing problems and I suspect that they are the cause here.

In all probability it will be the switch itself Mr Trout - if so it can be temporarily replaced by using the existing blade connections on a Narva switch if you can get one.

As far as I know there is a relay for the headlights on the 79 series But I just can't find the little bastard.

If you wire in another (not Toyota) relay and switch, I think they do something weird like switch the - and not the +
