MoveLater Ranger 2.2 single cab ute

    G'day All,

looking at 1 of these as a possible work ute . Test drive surprised how well it went with the 2.2 diesel and 6sp manual box. It won't be used off road , typical town work ute .

they seem a popular choice , maybe even as popular as Hilux up here now. Anyone got first hand experience - good or bad

    Cheers Ean

    I've got 4 yrs experience.

You must have read my threads when I've said thats its a 130 with a different body.

Yes, ultra reliable , economical average around 1000km per tankful, and often do 1100.

Nothing special about comfort but I can drive it all day (often do, with my 2 hour breaks)

Gearchange is suspect , (ie very difficult to be smooth) but that may have improved. I had my engine overrun altered in the ECU , which improved matters. Double clutch helps with a pause on the de-clutch.

Performance is impressive , it may surprise you what other 4wd's it can blow away.

It can be very easily given a 30-40% performance increase.

Mine runs straight thru exhaust , very little noise increase a local exhaust shop showed me this.

I am running the 17 x 8 XLT rims and 265/65 tyres which require no mods, flares or suspension resets. These rims can bought cheap everywhere...if you see the amount of Rangers running big tyres.

I rate the vehicle very highly having stepped out of a D2 after 8 yrs . It just doesn't seem to have anything against it.

I would , if you can , get an extra cab , not dual cab the one in between, and the hi-ride option.

Oh, there is the thread I posted about my wife’s boss’s ranger......I’m still mystified at there approach but the outcome is good. The girls still wonder when the brakes are going to fail on the new one.

In the last month I have seen two single cab ranger with style side tubs.....

The engine and transmission are also used in the Transit van and Defender and seem pretty robust. The gearing is good in the six-speed.
Smaller engines are surprisingly powerful now. The 2.0 litre in the Ford Raptor is more powerful than the 3.2.
