A couple of weekends ago, Lauraine and I set off for 3 days walking in the Guy Fawkes River area.

The route would take us from Chaelundi Campground, down the spur to the Guy Fawkes River and then northwards, following the National Trail, continue down the Boyd River to Corner Camp Fire Trail and out to the Old Grafton Rd a distance of about 35 k's

We first had to do a car shuffle, which entailed travelling from Tamworth to Glen Innes and down the Old Grafton Rd, leaving a car on the Fire Trail (TSR) and then driving the other car to Dalmorton and through to Chaelundi where we would leave it. Camping here overnight, allowed for an early start on the walk on Sunday morning.

The track down the spur is quite steep and is part of a National Park loop trail (Combalo Trail) which descends to the River then turns south upriver climbing Jordans Fire Trail and returning to the Campground which is around 30 k's.

Our route north once at the river however, should be a little easier. And it turned out to be so.

Here's a few pics.

The legs were sore for the next few days after 2 hours of downhill.

At the Guy Fawkes River

Casuarinas (River Oaks) are common along all of these river systems.

Walking through landscape like this is a pleasure.

Our first nights camp.

Most of this country has been used for grazing at some point and there were a few reminders.

Lots of flood debris also and this is just at ground level. It's astounding how high the in the trees some of the litter gets.

Lovely walking environment.

We reach the junction with the Sara River.

From the Sara, with the Guy Fawkes to the right both becoming the Boyd, to the left

There are hundreds of wild horses in the valleys, which explains the amount of short green pick and the lack of any kangaroos. They're a tad shy though.

Lauraine tries to escape at every opportunity

An intriguing rock outcrop.

Lunch stop on second day. The Angophoras are magnificent as were some of the eucalypts.

Early morning on day 3

Casuarina flower.

Back in civilisation? Note the National Trail marker.

A last look at the Boyd.

Looking back.

1 k to go and hoping the car is still in one piece (which it was)

This is a walk I'd recommend, as it's not difficult apart from the initial climb down to the Guy Fawkes. The need to do a car shuffle is a pain as it entailed nearly 1200 k's with the 2 cars, but it could be done as a return walk from the bottom end to negate this.
