    chip fat

Any tips on running a diesel engine on chip fat? Been looking at all the filters, some of which are heated. Other than just filtering it before even putting it in the car and extra filters in the car, anything else I should look out for.

    Cheers Chris.

get it while its hot if you can, filter it through a hydraulics strainer into a keg, make an adapter to put an AC vac pump on it. Dewater it by vacuum blend it with a little diesel/Avtur to help it flow when its cold and carry spare filters on the vehicle (I'm assuming tdi2/300 or 2.25D) as well as a spare lift pump or a facet pump setup to replace the normal lift pump.

    Thanks Blknight,
I am tempted to try it in a direct injection Patrol. I know some one who tried it in a defender and it ran fine. He paid for it already filtered and just poured it into the tank without any extra filtering. You always feel hungry as you can smell chips. Im just Googleing more info.

    Cheers Chris.

Try not to use any cooking oil that contains Tallow (animals fats) as the tallow will separate below 5 degrees C.

I used it in the uk straight from the shop

It was cheaper to buy it by the ltr from Aldi than it was for diesel at the petrol station

So I used to walk out I the shop with a cart full and fill the car up in the car park.

one must be carefull to filter, i knew some one that had to spend 4k on his injectors due to dirty oil.

he now just uses 3 big $5 filters from a 45 gallon drum sitting behind the drivers seat.

    seems to work.

Hi Crispy, I've been running my 300tdi on WVO for about 3yrs now without mishap. You don't need to carry extra filters if you put the right oil into your fuel system. There is plenty of fuss made about de-watering but I haven't de-watered my WVO ever. I can let you know about the fuel heaters and simple oil filtering and storage system I use if that is any help. I'm in Brisbane if you want to send me a PM.
There is lots of misinformation out there about use WVO. The only advice to listen to is filter your oil well and only use a plastic fuel tank for your WVO, never steel. I filter my oil 2 micron.

if you get the fat while its still hot enough (I like to get mine just after they finish cooking while its still at about 90 degrees +) there will be very little water content in it and it will stream through filters almost as fast as it comes out of the vat.

If its been left to stand in the outside drums for a while you need to exercise a bit of caution with it.

These tanks are really well priced, and will be worth a look for WVO tanks. I'm about to have a go with my 110/ Isuzu.
