Im thinking of buying the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 from DWI when I have the funds... they seem very well priced.

Not sure really, just been reading about it and Chucaro swears by them, so I guess im a little biased because of this. Im like many others I guess that rely on actual field test opinions rather than glossy magazine quotes.
Also, theres so many variations from each manufacturer that its all too confusing at times!

When I selected the Tokina 12-24 f/4 instead of the Sigma was because the filter size on the Sigma.
Now if I have to select one again, after reading the reports in few reputable sites i will select the Tokina again.
Photozone sumarise it very well

Verdict
The new Sigma 10-20 mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM leaves us with mixed feelings. The build quality of the lens is certainly excellent, distortion is a little high at the wide end (but excellent for the rest of the zoom range), there's also a fair amount of vignetting and CA, but that's typical for this lens class. Resolution in the center is excellent, borders also are nothing to complain about and corner performance is ok at 15 and 20 mm, but very disappointing at 10 mm.
In summary, it makes one wonder who's supposed to buy this lens. Those who already own the older and slower Sigma 10-20 most likely don't feel the need to upgrade, especially if they already own filters to go with the lens. Even those who purchase new will probably find the older design with its lower price point more attractive. Unless you really need the speed of this lens, but for those use cases the Tokina 11-16/2.8 is probably the more attractive option.
END of QUOTE
Interesting. I agree the filter issue is a pain. I only use two lens, being the 18-200mm and 10-20mm, which of course use different size filters.
Buy your filters to suit the biggest and get a step down adoptor to step down so they fit the smallest

I had a go at BBlaze's friend (John) Sigma and all I can say is WOW!!! What a lens, SHARP, crisp ans of course open wide angle images that leave my lens (although mine is 28mm onwards) for dead! I threatened to steal it off him all weekend![]()

Great Shots!!!!!
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
I just bought that Sigma too. It's pretty awesome. I was in a rush so grabbed it for 900 bucks at DCW!!! I have only shot a few still images with it but the tiomelapse stuff I did was where it really shone!!!
Will try to remember to post a few.
Tokina is pretty well liked but the sigm a is wider! Nikon and canon also have a good lens each in this range. Horses for courses. Vertticals will fall over on the edges of ther Sigma! Other than that you can't see too many offensive things about it. Nice crisp colours and f3.5 right the way through the zoom range is nice!
