Same on the D3s but I needed to get the commander of course :(
I worked as a photographer for a while and Nikon is wicked, now with digital era upon us, I do not have a DSLR anymore but instead borrow one if I need one from old work mates.
The problem is that technology is advancing so fast, its incredible.
You buy a top shelf camera today and in 6 months it will be old hat.
I grabbed his current camera not sure what it was but I shot inside with no flash at 3200 iso and very little grain.
There is no way a older model could deliver that.
Saying you will buy a good camera for today will be ancient in 2 years.
I am not sure how much use you have and what you do but I would suggest a top shelf glass. Get fast lenses, a good zoom and spend money there as even a lower priced Nikon with the sensor technology now will easily outperform a semi pro body from 2 years ago.
That way in two years you ebay the old body, buy a updated one and have latest technology, they be lighter than the pro bodies and the technology is still filtered down to them just the ruggedness is not quite there and some of the never used options may not be present.
Just an idea.
a friend of mine, a pro photographer uses a top of the range Nikon body [$3000 just for the body], but his back up body [in case that expensive body that he uses fails] is an very old Nikon D100.
If he trusts a > 5 year old Nikon as a back up, you probably can trust an old Nikon rather than buying an expensive one. Spend your money on good glass.
Well after much angst procrastination and dithering hours of surfing the web, talking to people and generally making a nusance of myself, unless I can get a d2xs real cheap (which I cant see happening) I am going to go for the D300s, I have 3 nikkor AF zoom film lenses that range from 18 to300 mm they will do until such time as I think I need better glass but they took superb film photos so I presume they will do the same digital.
If not I can always get better after I have worked out how to use it properly.
The hunt is now on to find one at the right price
Right price??... try DWI website and compare to others ;)
RRP is around $2100-2200 on a D300s body.
DDE has it one their Singapore export site for AU$1587. The trade here as D-D-Photographics in Sydney. I've bought off them, like DWI they are grey imports.
