Yes DM, I completely agree. I tried out of curiosity what its like to control the weight of camera/lens with ball head and its sux! So will be looking at alternatives, either another pan/tilt head for the tripod, or a monopod type setup.
Tried the lens out against some flowers I had indoors and they came out crisp with great bokeh as well.

I guess that the mounting it is better that hand held job for sharp images.
nice. Although it does look like you have taken more images of the lens than you have taken with the lens!
