Where to purchase a lense online

Hi guys, I'm thinking of buying a new lense for my Canon 40D. I've had a bit of a browse and see that alot of you use DWI. B&H was another that was mentioned a while ago, but it looks much more expensive than DWI. Are there any other online stores you'd recommend, or ones to stay away from?

    Cheers

DWI is the place to go if you like to be protected by Australian imports warraty.
B&H is very good place and for special products is a good place to shop.

    Mojo,

DWI are very good but you can try Digital Cameras and Lenses - Singapore - Fast Shipping to Australia, USA and Canada as well.

FYI this morning I purchased a Canon 24-105mm f4 L IS USM from Photo Continental at Mt Gravatt for $150 more than DWI (DWI were $997 inc freight). Might be worth giving them a try also.

DWI, D-D-Photographics, CameraPro, Digital Camera Warehouse, Quality Camera are all really good.

ECS (Syd - Cameras.net), Michael's (Melb), Photo Continental (Bris) are all good to buy over the phone.

As with anything you just have to watch the price and the cost of freight. B&H are excellent but they can be pricey and the freight costs out of the US can be high as Arthur mentioned they are good for specialty items.

    Thanks for the info guys.

I think I've managed to talk myself into getting the Canon 70-300 L series lens, while the dollar is so good. I'm sure my photography skills aren't currently good enough to warrant an L lens, but I'm hoping get out shooting alot more over the coming year, so hopefully if I get one I can do it justice.

    Cheers

That's the new f4? I tried it out this morning; very nice, not too heavy. Funny though, the salesman was pushing me to the 70-200 f4 L with a 1.4 extender. I think his reasons were size (70-200 is narrower) and that the 70-300 lens extends out of the body on zoom where the 70-200 does not and so is better sealed (maybe).

Sean, im sure my comments will bring criticism, BUT getting the good gear will improve your skills no end! Im a firm believer that if you got the right tools, then you can only skill up in time. If your tools are ****e, then your skills will be hampered (and also motivation) because of the limitations that they bring.

eg: do you ever see a pro sports person using substandard gear?

Have fun with it, and post up your shots

Yep, that's the one - although it's F4-5.6, not F4 through the whole range. I'm also considering the 70-200 with the extender. Not sure yet. The 70-300 is a new lens and probably over priced at the moment. Decisions decisions ...

I just hope stooge is right, and I take some decent shots with whatever I end up with!

At 200mm and f/5.6 the camera will possibly struggle if you add a 1.4xTC as this will decrease by 1 stop the available light (effectively f/8). The AF system in most DSLR's usually works at around f/5.6-6.7 as a maximum.
