My D3s files are about 15MB and that is 14-bit lossless NEF. If I shoot 14-bit uncompressed they are still only about 25MB and Large TIFF are 30MB. I haven't seen or read anything that hasn't suggested using 14-Bit Lossless RAW as being an issue on the D3s. This may be different on the D300s though.
Ops! sorry, between 23 to 30 mb in NEF and 55 to 70 in Tiff using the D300s.
With the D200 my NEF files are about 15mb

That makes more sense. I'd look into using 14-bit lossless for the NEF's though, if it is the same as the D3/s/x then it will save you space. I don't bother with TIFF on camera since I can save to this if required.

Ron it's more about what the pictures represent. I'm not a brilliant photographer either but I'd be more than disappointed, if I lost the pics from a trip.

I agree with Martyn, I have heaps of low quality photos (snap shots)more that 40 years old that are very valuable to me and the family, no to mention one of my mother that it is 72 years old.

I've become more a photographer for the purposes of illustrating an article. After all, who else looks at one's holiday snaps or how often does anyone look at them?

After our son's death, we we going through our pics to make up a slide show for the funeral and our daughter commented on how few pix we had after he turned about 13-14 and she was 6-7. Nothing has changed. I have taken virtually no photos of the family in the past 20 years.
