Tamron for nikon

I've been using Nikon for years, Canon are good I just hate the ergonomics of the Canon, especially the DSLR's. At the end of the day its what you're comfortable with.

interesting about the sigma, loanrangie personally from what i have read i wanted touch them you got any pics that you have taken with the lenses just be good to see what you get off them

If what you use most is already in that range I'd stick with replacing the 18-50. There's nothing between 17 and 18mm and better glass is always a good investment. If you can get to play with both lenses this would be a good idea.

I have just purchase the Sigma 18-50mm 2.8. I absolutly love it!! I took a couple of my shots down to the local pro shop, and he was amazed by the shots.
His advice was the Sigma and Tamron lenses in most cases are 99% as good as the Canon/Nikon Lenses. (He uses Nikon) And if your budget was open go for the Canon or Nikon if not the 'cheaper' lenses will serve you just aswell.

One of the things I love about my new lens is how quick it is to focus. I was playing with my older lens, Canon 70-300 4.5-5.6 yesterday, and it was SO SLOW. And it was always hunting for focus. I will definatly be getting rid of that lens and updating to the Sigma 70-200 2.8 in a month or so.

My next lens will be a 50mm F1.8 , i borrowed a mates 60mm F2.8 macro lens and the portraits are extremely sharp and clear so a 50mm at $120 will be well used.

Also have a look at the Sigma 24-60 and 24-70 both f/2.8

The other thing to look out for is a second hand 17-55 f/2.8 Nikkor very good if you can get one.

And the old f/1.2 50 manual focus Nikkor lens was amazing. Super sharp and super fast.
Shame I don't run Nikon, but if I ever found some good lenses 2nd hand, I'd grab them, then worry about a body afterwards.

I have the 28-75 on my Canon 30D, and find it excellent for the money. I'd like Canon L-series glass, which is far better, but like you I have more important things to spend the difference on. The Tamron is more than good enough for me - the only thing I don't like is the lens physically changes length as you zoom (There is a fancy name for this, but I forget what it is) whereas others manage this by moving the internals. It's hardly a big deal in the grand scheme of things though.

I also need to add a 70-200ish f2.8 too, and this looks like being the Sigma at a fraction of the cost of the Canon version. I have the 300mm f4 and am quite impressed with that.

Don't the Nikon DSLRs fit the older prime/fixed focal length lenses?

As a couple have said above, why not pick up some older lenses that don't have auto focus.

You should be able to pick up some excellent second hand Nikon glass that's also nice and fast.

It's really hard to get a zoom lens to match the quality of a prime lens, so good zoom lenses cost a lot of money.
