Just wondering how the new lens is going?? Any sample pix??
thought i would post up a couple of pictures.....sorry i know sunsets are always done to death but i took these tonight while walking the dogs
this is with the tamron lens i have just brought(28-75. f2.8, so far i think its ok, the only thing i have noticed is i dont believe it focus's as fast as my nikon 55-200 vr nikon lense which is 5.6.
even so seems to give nice clear pictures i'm now highly considering a sigma 2.8 zoom lense but at $1000 yep i reckon i will be considering for a little bit longer as i'm supposed to be saving for a hi def camera:(..to replace my old one before our trip as i want to take a video diary to put to dvd.

Hi Lou;
Searching around the web for a Sigma 70-200 HSM 2.8 Lens I found this review
Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX HSM Reviews

hi stew yes you are right from what everyone says nikon is the only way to go....but only if you have the money to buy them:)
i was also advise by a professional photographer of 40years that for my camera which is the nikon D80 that the nikon lenses are really a touch to heavy for a camera body that is prodominatly plastic... if picked up wrong with out thinking i could easily damage the body near the mounting ring.
now you may be thinking what does he know, but in talking to the guy i believe he gives good genuine advice especially as the reason i got talking to him was to buy his 80-200 f/2.8 lense so he had everything to lose by telling me i would be better off with a sigma and some other fixed lens (is this what you rfer to as prime? as in a 90mm)...which is what i'm looking at buying next the sigma 70-200..
i have got some really nice good colour photos from my cheaper lenses of 5.3 etc but there not so great with the moving stuff although the tamron i felt had a slower shutter them them it did pick movement really well.
think the colour rendition does come out on the slightly cooler side than my lower end nikons, and i cant say i prefer one over the other in regards to the colour becasue they both work in there own way.
hey stewie i looked at your pics they are really nice...
i also looked at the forum you gave me and to be honest i was expecting them to slate the lens i have but they dont!! the only thing some say is reliability.....quite a few have seem to have broken:(
thats the chance you take though i suppose when your always looking for bang for buck.....
if i got rid of the 3 landrovers i could probably have a nice kit too:D...
the amount of money i spend a month on the new defender i could honestly have my self a pro lense every 6 weeks...
the sacrifices we make hey:(....bloody men:mad: blane it on the boyfriends defender fetish i reckon
Just buy the nikon AF-S DX 18-200 VR lens for the D80, the most versatile lens around and you don't need to carry lots of lenses with you when travelling !
Matt.
i wish i had brought that lens in the first place....but never knew about it until recently when i started buying photography magazines..
the first lens i brought was a 55-200 nikon with vr, and i think its a very good lens
i also got a 18-50nikon and a 70-300 nikon these all did me proud when i was learing how to use the camera and stuff, and thought that they would do me just fine....i very quickly started to learn the limitations and wanted more!!
i can honestly say i have really only swapped between my 18-50 and my 55-200 and haven't used my 300 that much!! hence why i wanted to change to a couple of 2.8's in this range although it would of been nicer to get a little lower than the 28 that i got, but hey cant win them all
i know what your saying about the whole traveling thing but to be honest i never had a problem carrying my gear around the states and i was carrying camera and all three lens's in my back pack....and most other traveling is done within my car.
i hate learing about things the hard way and should of posted this up when i was learing to get the advise from all you guys..
but its done now and i have to make the most of what i have and as much as i would really really love to buy expensive nikon lens its probably not going to happen:(.....cant really justify the prices that they fetch when i only really do this as a hobby, if i was doing it for a job for sure i would invest in really really good glass. but that will never happen either
good prices for tamron here, i have brought ALL my gear from these guys and have great service and prices !!
