After a couple more gift vouchers for Rays for Xmas I'm looking at fridges again and today and tomorrow 26/27 Dec they have 20% off storewide.
Looking at a Engel MT45F-S. price $1299 - 20% = $1039
cover price $190 - 20% = $150
total = $1189
Am I likely to do much better than this? Interestingly Anaconda have the same pricing at the moment but I don't have gift vouchers for there.
Do better deals come up for these?
Hey,
About 4 months ago I got my MT45 Engel from BCF for $1035. It came with a Transit bag/cover, plus Engels summer starter pack(?) (picnic set, butane stove, cap, stubby cooler and portable cooler/warmer small fridge thingo)
It was a price that Anaconda had advertised (20% off), which I took to BCF who had the fridge, bag and summer pack on for $1199. Asked the BCF guy to price match the Anaconda price and still throw in all the freebies. After some umming and arring and some haggling he agreed.
You can get lucky... I had been looking out for a good deal for 12 months or so... but similar deals do come out fairly regularly. Only you will know how long you are prepared to wait and what price you are happy to pay.
Just spent 10 days on Fraser and honestly don't know how I ever lived without a fridge. Best investment ever and was stoked with my deal. Nothing better than ice cold beer and real steak when camping :-).
Cheers,
Josh
Picked up the fridge and bag yesterday. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to keep it next to my chair in the lounge room full of beers. SWMBO objects for some reason. I did manage to chill a couple of frothy's though before it was ordered out
I put it in the car overnight running of the 2nd battery and it kept a constant -1c on the fridge setting of about 2.5 I think.
How long should it take for the temperature to drag down to -18c from startup?
Depends on the thermal load of the contents.![]()
FWIW: I have a Bushman configured to 52 L with the collar and high lid... empty and at 29 deg C ambient, it takes about 15 mins to pull down to -20degC (measured using a thermocouple on a multimeter) I'd assume the Engel has similar characteristics or is even a bit quicker...
First time I plugged it into 240v and set it to 5 which runs the compressor non stop (maximum chill). It got down to about -6 after about 2 hours which I thought was a bit slow. Certainly nothing near 15 mins.
