Lived out of one for 13 months.
These are the rolls Royce.

There are many (dozens) of Chinese variants priced 800 to 2k with some seeming only difference the price.

Given the lightness of the material l would. Think. Kristol a bonus. I prefer the alloy base to ply as some are not treated.

Look at the strength of the bows and quality of fittings and zips.

Tiger in kilsythe have tents on sale for 800 and racks for 350. And other awning options. Haven't seen them.

Ask in the club, some were purchased 18 months ago

Thanks Steve, I'll look into this. At just under $200, it might be a very good investment. Theres still room for all our bedding as well as one of these mats.
We love our RRT, its an "Up Top" tent, same as 4x4envy's. Their half the price of most of the other brands, but when you look closely at them all, theres not much difference in them,, it seems, just a name.
Looking forward to getting it on top of the Defer and going away. :D

Same factory and identical specs to the ARB version which is $$$$ more

We love our Hannibal 2m tent. The 2m has 2 ladders to help support the size of it.
I have queen size sheet, doona 2 large pillows and a large sleeping bag permanently up there. As well as a large towel which acts as the doormat.
On my own I have done the lot in 9 minutes, and about the same for pack up. The hardest part really is that it is on top of a very tall Defender and much of the work is done by me climbing up on top to do straps and zips etc. If you were taller it would be a much quicker easier job.
I have no problems taking it down in the morning, back up in the evenings so we can use the vehicle. Even put it up just for an afternoon nap.

Get Quality. The differences will become apparent over time.

Ours doesn't have the jumbo fly, which in good conditions is great. 360 degree views and breeze. But for the few times its rained the added cover would be good to put shelter over doorway.

Oil your suspension. We were camped at the Roebuck Plains Roadhouse last year. A couple of girls and a fella were in at the bar listening to Outback Paddy. The girls had just come of a mine site for a bit of R&R and were going to have a good time. A bit later on when the bar closed we noticed the three of them, two females and the bloke were camped with the Cruddydore with the RTT. We went to bed in the camper amid laugh from the cruddydore. A bit later the noise died down and the suspension on the cruddydore started up. At least one of the girls had a good time. It was hard not to burst out loud with laughter.

The Series 3 we inherited had a RTT but as we are both in our 60's and less flexible than we used to be we found it difficult to use. The main problem is the lack of ladder extension above the floor level of the tent- getting onto the ladder at the top, and climbing off it onto the bed were a bit tricky, and as we both need to pop out for a leak a couple times a night, there was great potential for a fall and a broken leg or hip- tricky to drive a Series 3 with a broken hip...
So we got a camper trailer instead, and use an ordinary tent if we aren't taking the trailer.
Given that all the replies so far are from enthusiastic RTT users, I thought you might like to hear about some disadvantages...

What happened to the RTT once you removed it?

We still have it. We "inherited" the Series III (with RTT) from the kids who realised they couldn't take it with them on their yacht...
So we are "Looking after" it for them- they told us to use it.... :-)

We have a 1.4m hannibal with the jumbo fly. It takes a bit more effort to pack away with the jumbo but I think it is worth it for the extra shade to sit under/ cooking/change room. I have mine on a duel cab so I wanted it over a short tray. When closed it is no higher than the normal roof line. This makes it better to pack, It must be hard on some raised units. When folded out I still have 1.8m so I can walk under it.
